$1.5 Million Ocella Settlement Reached with Bayer

Over 11,000 lawsuits were filed on behalf of women claiming injuries from contraception pills Yaz, Yasmin, Ocella and Gianvi, manufactured by Bayer. Our law firm recently settled a claim against Bayer for injuries a client sustained following her use of the birth control pill, Ocella. Our client was 23 years old when she began using Ocella. Within weeks of her Ocella use she began experiencing problems which led to surgeries and partial loss of vision. The lawsuit was filed in 2013. Bayer agreed to this settlement without admission of wrongdoing or liability. This settlement is one of the highest awarded settlements out of over 11,000 settled cases nationwide.

New Jersey Appellate Court Upholds $11 Million Verdict Against J&J in Pelvic Mesh Suit
An appellate court in New Jersey has issued an opinion
upholding a jury’s award of $11.1 million against medical device manufacturer Johnson & Johnson in a pelvic mesh product liability lawsuit. The verdict came at the close of a 2-month trial in which plaintiffs Linda and Jeffrey Gross alleged that Johnson & Johnson’s pelvic mesh product caused Linda severe, painful, and permanent injuries.

Lawsuit Filed Against Bayer over Essure Birth Control Implant Device
Bayer is one of the largest pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers in the world today. Recently, a group of over 30 women filed a lawsuit against the company alleging that its Essure permanent birth control device resulted in serious and painful health problems. Common symptoms that the plaintiffs reported suffering from included menstrual bleeding, migraines, abdominal cramping, and abnormal bleeding. The complaint was filed on March 17 in St. Louis, Missouri.

Texas Jury Awards $500 Million Verdict in Johnson & Johnson DePuy Hip Implant Case
After a two-month trial and a one-week period of jury deliberations, the jury in a case against medical device and home consumer goods company Johnson & Johnson has returned a $500 million verdict in the plaintiffs’ favor. Johnson & Johnson manufactured and marketed the DePuy hip implant product, consisting of a metal-on-metal device. Read More
Ford Motor Company Recalls Roughly 400,000 Vehicles Following Airbag-Related Fatality
CBS news recently issued a news story stating that major car manufacturer Ford Motor Company has initiated a recall of roughly 391,000 of its Ford Ranger truck vehicles after a man riding in one of the vehicles died when one of the truck’s airbags exploded. The recall covers Ranger trucks manufactured between the years of 2004 and 2006. Read More

Johnson & Johnson, a global manufacturer of household products, was recently ordered to pay a $72 million judgment to the family of a woman who died from ovarian cancer. Court Rules Plaintiff Has Free Choice in Future Medical Providers, Increasing Damages Award
In a recent case, a plaintiff argued that his damages award was incorrect because it did not allow him to choose his own medical provider in the future. The man sued the government after his surgery at a VA hospital rendered him quadriplegic. The government was found liable for his injuries, and the man was awarded damages of over $4 million. A recent class action lawsuit was filed against Royal Caribbean after passengers’ dreams of an idyllic cruise turned into a nightmare. According to a news source, passengers on the cruise expected to go on a seven-day cruise from New Jersey to the Bahamas and back. However, after three days, the ship came back after enduring severe weather with 125-mile-per-hour winds and 30-foot-high waves.

FDA Warns Women of Potential Risks of Essure
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently announced that it would take actions to provide women with information about the risks of using Essure, a form of permanent birth control. This form of birth control involves inserting flexible coils through the cervix and vagina into the fallopian tubes. After about three months, scar tissue forms around the coils and makes a barrier in order to prevent conception.
