April is Autism Awareness Month!

APRIL 2ND IS WORLD AUTISM AWARENESS DAY. PLEASE HELP TO RAISE AWARENESS OF AUTISM BY LIGHTING IT UP BLUE
Last year, our city and community leaders responded in a big way. We had many landmark buildings throughout Virginia Beach brightly lit up in blue, while many organizations hosted special events to build awareness. It was an awesome show of support!  At dusk on Tuesday, April 2, businesses across the community have pledged to once again "light it up blue."  to celebrate World Autism Awareness Day and Autism Awareness Month.  This campaign is sponsored by Autism Speaks, and the purpose is to generate awareness of autism as a growing public health crisis worldwide
Please help Virginia Beach continue their leadership roll in support of those in our community who have loved ones with an autism diagnosis.

VIRGINIA BEACH YOUTH SERVICES CLUB (VBYSC) GRANTS FACT WITH ANOTHER YEAR OF SMILES

For several years now, FACT has been the beneficiary of the VBYSC's charitable ways, including two years of iCan Shine Bike camp, a bus for camp, and imperative software programs. Comprised of about 100 men from Virginia Beach, the VBYSC raises about $100,000 for local children's charities each year. In their 40 years of existence, they continue to do what they do simply for the sake of the cause, not needing any attention or glam for themselves.Captain Mike Ronan, of the Virginia Beach Police Department, says their intention is to help the charities that "impact the most amount of kids in order to provide the furthest reaching effect.  Well done, gentlemen. Keep up the good work!
Each year, this outstanding organizations hosts a HUGE Pig and Oyster Bash over at Camp Pendelton, which welcomes thousands. The proceeds of this event go to helping children's charities within Virginia Beach.

CAMP GONNAWANNAGOAGIN' IS STILL ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR CAMPERS, VOLUNTEERS, AND STAFF

Camp Gonnawannagoagin' is a place where individuals with autism can be themselves, not thei r disability. Volunteers are learning and forging relationships, not just signing an hourly log. Our staff have the pleasure of putting their nurturing personalities to work while touring all of Tidewater's recreational hot spots. While some may be sentimental about Spring Break Camp coming to a close, Summer Camp is just around the corner.
