We're getting close to the launch of a training 
program that has been in development. This new program will 
provide the employees of our member governments valuable employee development training year round.  Featured within the program will also be an  elected officials leadership training series offered later in the year.  Look for details in our upcoming newsletters, on our  website and   Facebook.

GOVERNMENT PLANNING SERVICES

There will be a FY2016 CDBG Application Workshop held by ADECA at the Renaissance Montgomery Hotel and Spa, in Montgomery, on Monday, May 2, 2016.  The Workshop will begin at 10:00 a.m., and conclude at 4:00 p.m.  Anyone interested in attending this workshop should pre-register with ADECA by calling Teresa Nobles at (334) 242-0492 or emailing at  [email protected] by the close of business Friday April 29th.
MASTERS GAMES OF ALABAMA TO BE HELD MAY - JULY

The Area Agency on Aging is sponsoring the district Masters Games Tournament for Baldwin, Mobile and Escambia counties. The Masters Games of Alabama were organized in 1989 to involve senior adults in recreational activity and fitness. Any resident of the state of Alabama age 50 and older is eligible to participate in the games. The winners for the local events may compete in statewide competitions.

The games will kick off May 4 in Mobile with basketball free throw, billiards, Frisbee throw, Nerfball throw, softball throw, and horseshoes. On June 8 Mobile will host rook. On May 25 shuffleboard, table tennis and checkers will be heldin Orange Beach, followed June 22 with dominos in Chickasaw and Doubles Dominoes June 29 in Robertsdale. Bowling will be held in Spanish Fort on July 14. Opportunities to compete at the state level in swimming, golf and 3-on-3 basketball are also available.

Local champions can compete statewide in Trussville in October 2016, and a chartered bus will be available. South Alabama senior athletes bring back many state medals annually.

SHIP PROGRAM ANNOUNCES "WELCOME TO MEDICARE" LOCATIONS

The Area Agency on Aging's popular monthly Medicare seminars will move to new locations in Baldwin and Escambia Counties beginning in May:
 
Atmore Community Hospital Auditorium 
10:00 AM to 11:30 
1st  Monday of every month beginning May 2, 2016
 
Spanish Fort Community Center 
9:00AM to Noon 
Second Tuesday of every month beginning May 10
 
This popular seminar will continue at its current time and place in Mobile, at SARPC's offices at the GM&O building from 9:00 to Noon the First Tuesday of every month.  The seminars are presented by the Area Agency on Aging's SHIP program.


 
The State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) is officially designated by the Alabama Department of Senior Services and the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to provide free, unbiased Medicare counseling as a health care advocate.  Come see us the month before  turning age 65 for advice on selecting a Medicare plan.With so many options and post cards arriving almost daily, the choice can be confusing and a little overwhelming. We will not only give you advice on selecting a plan, but also see if you are eligible for Medicare Savings Programs to help with your premiums and copayments.
