April 2016
A Note from the Mayor

April is a busy month with the opening of our youth baseball, softball and soccer seasons. Attending games and tournaments is a great way to enjoy the springtime weather and show support for our youth sports programs.
Congratulations to the Maumelle High School Boys' Basketball Team and Coach Michael Shook; they had a fantastic season and finished as Runner Up in the 5A State Basketball Championship for the second year in a row. They lost the final game in overtime. It was a heartbreaker!

The new Senior Wellness Center, located at 2 Club Manor Cove, near the intersection of Club Manor Drive and Odom Boulevard, has broken ground, and the site is being cleared in preparation for the construction of the new facility. The Childcare Network has been issued a building permit and will be building on the lot east of David's Burgers on Country Club Parkway. As previously mentioned, the building under construction next to Starbucks is the new U.S. Pizza location. Also, a new Sonic should be breaking ground soon in that same area of the city.

The Arkansas Symphony Orchestra will be performing at Maumelle Performing Arts Center on April 9th at 7:30 p.m. and April 10th at 3:00 p.m. It will be their season finale and their last performance in Maumelle. The performance will feature Shostakovich - Symphony No. 5 and Bernstein - Candide: Overture.

Celebrity Attractions will be presenting Ragtime the weekend of April 15-17th with four performances at the Maumelle Performing Arts Center. Ragtime blends the stories of an upper-class wife, a determined Jewish immigrant and a daring young Harlem musician; set in turn-of-the-century New York, all three are united by their desires and beliefs in a brighter tomorrow.

Counting on Each Other will hold a "Garage Sale" at the Community Center April 2nd and a "Shred it Event" on April 23rd at Bank of the Ozarks. Counting on Each Other is a non-profit that raises funds to support programs through the Senior Wellness Center.

For the fourth consecutive year, the Arkansas International Pageants will be held at the Maumelle Performing Arts Center. The competitions begin on April 22nd and will end with the final competition April 24th. For more information, visit the Arkansas International Pageant Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Arkansasintlpageant2015 .
