ACCESS 2.0 Test Data - Matching the Classroom Expectations for Academic Language
|
ND / SD English Learners Colony Conference - June 1-2
In the summer of 2016, WIDA conducted a standard setting study with educators from consortium member states. As a result of the standard setting, the 2016-17 ACCESS 2.0 scores will reflect the increased language complexity in the updated academic standards (NDSS) and assessments (NDSA).
We should expect to see a decrease in students' ACCESS 2.0 scores this year as compared to previous years. Therefore, a decrease in the ACCESS proficiency level score from 2016 to 2017 may not mean that students are not failing to make progress in their language proficiency. It would also be expected that fewer students will exit from the English Learner (EL) program as a result of the updated 2017 ACCESS 2.0 scores. School administrators and EL staff should be discussing the possible impact on service minutes and caseload for next year with this in mind.

Paralysis By (Lack Of) Analysis: Analyze Your Data In A Timely Manner
The tip this month is inspired by one of the great founding fathers of the United States - Benjamin Franklin. Why? you may ask.
Because he's the one who coined the phrase "in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes and using data effectively" (O.K. the part about data may have been my own prophecy, but after these tips I hope this also holds true). Anyways, as tax season draws to a close, I hope this tip helps you and your team save a few Benjamins.
Once you have identified which data needs to be collected, in what manner as well as made sure everyone is clear on what the data means, it is time to go out and collect your data.

Nearly 500 students make up the Oakes Public School System and are lucky to have such great leadership and staff that always put the students first.
"OPS is unique as its level of communication and teamwork with 1st year staff is outstanding knowing that they make up 27% of all teachers, counselors, and administration here."
"We actually completed a communication study to evaluate our internal and external communication with all staff and stakeholders of our district. Our new staff to the district have overcome the challenges of their first year with teamwork and grit."
