MUSIC TIME ACDEMY AROUND THE WEB

Greetings!

Greetings to all! We hope you are enjoying the increasingly longer days of lovely, warm sun and blue skies as much as we are.

You may have noticed a few changes around the studio just before the Spring Break, like the big move of the office & store into the front area. Per student and parent requests, we will be adding additional seating to the rear area as well as some outdoor seating in the front to accommodate those who wish to wait in comfort. We always welcome your suggestions and input, so please feel free to pass along any feedback via email or in-person to either Monica (in the office) or Anna (usually in the drum room).

In other news - Our students & teachers are busy gearing up for the Spring Concert - HAVE YOU SIGNED UP YET? Please remember, the deadline to reserve your spot is Sunday, April 28th. In case you missed it in the last email, here is a link to the announcement and information about the event: Spring Concert Announcement

And now - introducing our Summer Workshops! Plus April's Student of the Month & Teacher Feature. Keep reading...

2013 Summer Workshops

These one week-long group courses are specifically designed to not only be for new music students, but also meant as a great way to supplement the material covered in private lessons. Most classes are designed for absolute beginners, or with the intention of current music students to have an opportunity to explore a new instrument or musical genre. Current students are welcome to invite friends & family members without any prior experience or lessons  to register in these summer classes.  All courses are open to both current Music Time Academy students and the general public.

Alexandra began lessons last year at the ripe old age of 3 -  possibly the youngest piano student we have ever had enrolled at Music Time Academy. After a trial lesson, her instructor assessed that (despite her young age) she was in fact ready for lessons, and could follow in the footsteps of her older sister, Andrea who is a violin student here. In just under one year of lessons, Alexandra's instructor, Judy is amazed by her progress, bragging that Alexandra has powered through 4 piano books already - an impressive pace...for any age! Keep up the great work, Alexandra!

Teacher Feature
For April, we would like to highlight a recent addition to our teaching staff, Danny Echevarria. Danny is a graduate of the Music Department at UC Santa Cruz, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Music with a concentration in electronic music & recording. Yet another talented multi-instrumentalist on staff, Danny also studied violin at UC Santa Cruz, under the instruction of Roy Malan, concertmaster of the SF Ballet. Danny's many other musical accomplishments include sound design for "As If!" (a theatrical adaptation of the movie Clueless) and years of performances and recordings with ensembles in styles ranging from high-energy rock to traditional country to electronic dance music, and just about everything else in between - even theater groups and orchestras! Danny has been on two self-booked/-promoted tours of the United States.

Prior to his current work a as guitar, bass, violin and rock band instructor here at Music Time, Danny has previously taught both private music lessons and group lessons at several College Prep schools, day schools, elementary schools and summer camps. In line with with experience as a recording engineer, Danny incorporates his studies into teaching, "I have done recording projects with a number of my students, and I feel that recording opens students up to whole new ways of thinking about making music. There is something incredible and illuminating about hearing your own performance reproduced for your ears in a new way; recording is always a rewarding experience, and I also happen to think that it's really fun."
