The Week of the Young Child™ is an annual celebration hosted by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) celebrating early learning, young children, their teachers and families. This year it begins April 23.
In Amador County we are kicking things off on Saturday, April 22, with the 19th annual
Celebrate Our Children!
The event will feature exciting activities, food, a car seat check, petting zoo, entertainment, and fluoride varnishes! Everything is FREE!
This year's theme is called
"Putting Minds in Motion! with S.T.E.A.M." The letters S.T.E.A.M. stand for
a curriculum based on the idea of educating students in five specific disciplines - science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics - in an interdisciplinary and applied approach. Rather than teach the disciplines as separate and discrete subjects, S.T.E.A.M. integrates them into a cohesive learning paradigm based on real-world applications.

Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month
And for Amador County that means it's
Knitting for a Cause month!
In efforts to bring awareness and education to our community about child abuse prevention, the Amador Child Abuse Prevention Council's focus for April - Child Abuse Prevention Month - is on the
"Period of Purple Crying." The aim is to bring attention to and educate parents and the community about this sensitive time and to the dangers of reacting in frustration with a baby's crying, such as shaking or harming them in some other way.
Knitters and crocheters are invited to create hats with purple yarn for newborn babies of Amador County. To launch the project, information about Knitting for a Cause and the Period of Purple Crying, and along with some starter yarn, is being delivered to these locations throughout the county:

FIRST 5 AMADOR NOW HIRING FOR
SUMMER KINDERGARTEN BRIDGE PROGRAM
The Kindergarten
Bridge
Program is designed for children who will be starting kindergarten in the Fall. Priority enrollment is given to children who have spent little or no time in a preschool setting. The 3-week transition
program is designed to introduce incoming students to the structure, rhythm and routine of the kindergarten classroom. It is called a
Bridge
Program because it aims to help children cros
s from the pre-kindergarten environment into the kindergarten world. The program has grown each year and will be serving children this Summer at all six school district elementary school sites, including Ione, Jackson, Pine Grove, Pioneer, Plymouth and Sutter Creek.
First 5 Amador is seeking teachers, and teacher's aides, to serve children at each of these sites.
Dates are: Monday - Thursday, 8:00 - 11:30 am, from June 12 through June 29. All hires must also attend an Orientation and a Mandated Reporter Training presented by the Amador Child Abuse Prevention Council.
These positions are ideal for current kindergarten or preschool teachers, aides, or students in the Early Childhood Education field. Education and/or experience required.
