Eight teams drew for bracket positions in the 112th U.S. Open Polo Championship® at a draw party Thursday from the Pavilion at the International Polo Club. The U.S. Open, which dates back to 1904, is the most prestigious tournament in the United States. Three weeks of competition begin with a tentative state date on Saturday, April 2 and culminate with the final Sunday, April 24.
The 7th Annual International Gay Polo Tournament and Gay Polo Week kicks off on Friday, April 1, with the annual Polotini Party at IPC's Mallet Grille. The Finals of the tournament are on Saturday, April 2, at 1 and 3 pm at IPC's Isla Carroll Field West. Polo pros include Charlie Muldoon, Joey Casey, Tiffany Busch and Hector Galindo. Gulfstream Polo Club held its third tournament final of the week on Sunday, March 6, in the form of the Finals of the February 6-Goal League. Giddy Up Polo stole the show late in the game, defeating Monetmar 8-7 in a hard fought battle to the end. Marcos Onetto's "Mozzarella" was Best Playing Pony while John Gobin was awarded MVP for his efforts against Giddy Up.
Matt Coppola, 21, a 4-goaler from Wellington, Florida, went to Argentina in November 2015 as he does every fall to spend two months playing and improving his game. This time brought a surprise twist: The new All Pro Polo League suddenly needed a player, and the call went out to Coppola. He was one of only two players from the United States in a tournament packed with Argentines.
Four Team USPA members propelled Palm Beach Illustrated to victory Tuesday in the $50,000 National 12-Goal Tournament final at Grand Champions Polo Club. Palm Beach Illustrated defeated Pony Express 13-12. Team USPA member Jesse Bray was named Most Valuable Player. Best Playing Pony was awarded to "61," played by Tomas Goti.
Prestonwood won the 2016 USPA Open National Interscholastic (NIS) Championship at ERG Arena at the Houston Polo Club in Brookshire, TX, defeating West Shore 13-11 in a tightly contested final on Sunday. It was an exciting victory for Prestonwood, having lost the final to West Shore last year.
On March 19 through March 26, ten teams were hosted by the Costa Careyes Polo Club, Alberto and Kari Ardissone and Giorgio Brignone, founder of the polo club. Players from Peru, Columbia, England, Italy, Portugal, Ecuador, Argentina and Mexico came to play as four 10-goal teams and six 6-goal teams.
The Maryland Girls' Interscholastic Polo Team won the Girls' National Interscholastic Championship for a third consecutive year, defeating Garrison Forest 15-8 in the final at Empire Polo Club in the 25th anniversary event. Five of the top high school girls polo teams qualified for the finals, including Cornell Interscholastic Polo Team, Culver Academies and Central Coast Polo Club.

In a highly contended match, England defeated the United States to capture the Bryan Morrison Trophy in the 2016 International Arena Polo Test Match at the All England Polo Club. The highest-goal arena polo championship in the world, the event is held in England every other year, America was hoping to level its Bryan Morrison record at 2-2, but England's 16-14 victory put it ahead 3-1.
A thrilling polo game kicked off the Inaugural Nic Roldan's Sunset Polo & White Party at The Wanderers Club to benefit equine charity Brooke USA. Roldan led the Brooke USA Grey team to a 6-5 victory over Brooke USA Orange, captained by 6-goaler Kris Kampsen. Brandon Phillips' "Dallas" was selected as Best Playing Pony. Afterwards, players joined party goers poolside at The Wanderers for a fun night to raise money and awareness for the Brooke USA.
