Conway Public Library

April 2014
Dear Patron,
April can fool us into thinking it's spring, but don't put away your boots yet. Local folks will tell you that it always snows at least twice in April, but it's the "poor man's fertilizer" and usually melts quickly.  It's still too wet and cold to plant anything but spinach, but other spring projects can do until things dry out.  Give your tomatoes and green peppers a head start in a sunny south-facing window. Borrow some gardening books from the library and plan gardens - herbs, veggies, flowers. Repair  fences, cut bean poles, or set up trellis for climbing plants. Prune bushes, small trees and shrubs. Design a container garden.
Not a gardener? Rake the yard. Spruce up the lawn furniture. Stain the deck. Wash the windows on the outside. Tune up the bicycles. Go for a hike. Then put up your feet and enjoy a good book.
It may not be summer yet, but the long, cold winter IS over!
