SHOW – Christian Character Trait – Humility

Luke 18:13-14, “But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted."

People today, and even Christians, often don't know the meaning of the word "humble".  This word has been used in so many different contexts that it has lost its original meaning.  Professional athletes will use the word "humble" to describe giving the ball to someone else to score.  Performers will use the word to describe not being a prima donna with their art.  Christians will use it in a way to say that they are...

Confirmation Connection
We just celebrated to great events in our Confirmand's lives.  On Palm Sunday they celebrated a Milestone of parent blessing before they take Communion for the first time.  I was teary eyed as I heard other parents and families bless their children in their families and in the Body of Christ.  Then on Maundy Thursday they celebrated Communion for the first time.  It was a great joy to see the students, who were all well prepared by their church and their families, take Communion with their families for the first time.  It is not just a tradition or a ritual but a life impacting event that they now get to celebrate continually!        
Shepherd School Connection
Our school is our #1 mission of our church.  Are you tied into this mission?  Most everyone in our congregation knows about our school but there are many who take a hands off approach to it for various reasons.  I would encourage you that if you want to be tied to the mission of our church that you connect in some regular way to our school.  Come to classes, encourage teachers on Sundays, meet parents when the kids sing, continue to generously give offerings for the school, and encourage others to be a part of the mission as well!

Thank you all for supporting our NYG group in coming to the Easter Breakfast!  Our next fundraiser will be on Sunday, May 15 during the fellowship time at 9:00-9:30 am in the Gym.  SHYP will be serving and sponsoring good donuts and coffee that day as well as being available to greet congregation members.  People will then have a chance to see how each individual youth is doing in raising funds.  They can then donate to specific youth or the whole group.  It would be our goal and blessing to have each youth completely funded before we go.  Thank you for supporting our youth!
