Nuestros Maestros: The Legacy of Abad E. Lucero

 

 Abad Eloy Lucero (1909-2009) was a renaissance man in New Mexico art history. This exhibition features furniture, paintings and sculptures by the artist and highlights his mastery of beloved New Mexico art forms. Join the exhibit curator, Dr. Tey Marianna Nunn, on Sunday, April 15 at 1:30 for a guided tour of the exhibit.

  Mexican Film Series: The Soul of Mexico V: Living Heritage 

Written by Carlos Monsiváis, directed by Emilio Cantón and narrated by Mario Ivan Martínez. The Mexican revolutionary movement became the first social revolution of the 20th Century and bred along a significant cultural phenomenon that created high quality works in different artistic disciplines.   Video Art Screening: Videonautas

Videonautas is a series of 15 short films selected from the "video creation" section ofthe Film Festival of Tarragona(www.festivalrec.com). These creations explore the possibilities of audiovisual language and present us with a multiplicity of techniques, formats and ideas that highlight the vitality of Spanish audiovisual creation. with English subtitles.

 A Way Home

A Way Home is a contemporary opera for middle and high school students, as well as families, exploring the roots of cultural identity. Gracie and her father travel from Texas to Mexico to scatter her mother's ashes among the Oyamel firs in Michoacán. 10th Annual National Latino Writers Conference
    

National Latino Writer's ConferenceNationally prominent authors, agents, and editors present workshops and panel discussions. Genres include novel, poetry, anthology, playwriting, memoir/biography and popular culture. Attendees have the opportunity to have three one-on-one appointments with an agent, author, and editor.  Registration fee covers all workshops, interviews, conference activities, refreshments and evening banquet. Photography Exhibit: E*CO           

Instituto Cervantes in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture of Spain, the Embassy of Spain and the National Hispanic Cultural Center present E*CO.  Curated by Claudi Carreras, the exhibition E*CO gathered photographic projects by twenty Latin American and European photographic collectives, each tasked with crafting a visual essay about one of the most important topics of our day - the environment.

Exhibit: Barelas A Traves de Los Años

The National Hispanic Cultural Center presents a centennial history exhibit of the historic Barelas neighborhood, one of the original plazas of Albuquerque, Los Barelas. Although the neighborhood predates Albuquerque (1706) this exhibit covers the period of statehood from 1912 to 2012. The exhibit includes images and stories from local personalities, events, groups, sports, businesses, religion, education, the railroad shops, musicians, weddings and other elements of social life.

Aventuras en Español/Adventures in Spanish
      

The Instituto Cervantes and the National Hispanic Cultural Center team up to offer a fun, intensive Spanish language and cultural experience tailored for children ages 7-12. It happens in July, but registration has already begun! Participants engage in arts, theater, music, cooking and dance while learning vocabulary and conversational skills. Space is limited.
