Thanks to Haydel Dermatology for their continued efforts to fight cancer in the Bayou Region with the Cancer Center
Fun-filled, Successful Night
Special Thanks to Haydel Dermatology

The 8th Annual Ladies Night Out was held on Friday, March 21 at the Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center. Funds raised help assist with necessary care for cancer patients in the Bayou Region, such as: transportation assistance, nutritional supplements, medication assistance and much more. WWL-TV's Sally-Ann Roberts was the guest speaker and her

co-anchor Eric Paulsen served as the very humorous emcee. Local band Soul Survivor entertained the crowd and a robust silent auction included

fabulous items.

The ladies were also treated to food, drinks and a '50s-themed photo booth was set up to capture all the great memories. Attendees were also granted a sneak peek of the new brand for Ladies Night Out 2015.

Special thanks to Brooke Haydel and Haydel Dermatology for the support through their annual raffle. A lucky winner received a total rejuvenation package, valued at $3,000.

A big thank you to all volunteers, sponsors and attendees for your help in the

fight against cancer.

April is National Oral, Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Month

Know the Facts

Oral, head and neck cancers, which include cancers of the mouth, nose, sinuses, salivary glands, throat and lymph nodes in the neck, account for approximately 3 percent of all malignancies in the United States. Overall incidence began decreasing 30 years ago and stabilized in 2003, whereas overall mortality rates have steadily declined. Notably, the incidence of head and neck cancer in African Americans has declined over the past two decades and is now lower than that in whites.

Most begin in the moist tissues that line the mouth, nose and throat. Symptoms may include a lump or sore that does not heal, a sore throat that does not go away, trouble swallowing or a change or hoarseness in the voice.

Using tobacco or alcohol increases your risk. In fact, 75 percent of head and neck cancers are linked to tobacco use, including smoking and smokeless tobacco. Additionally, infection with certain types of human papillomavirus (HPV) causes more than half of all cases of oropharyngeal cancer. While there are no standard or routine screening tests for head and neck cancers, if detected early, these cancers are often curable.
