City of Gig Harbor News

The City of Gig Harbor would like to welcome Police Officer Ashley Tobin, and Waste Water Treatment Plant Operator James Wilkinson.

Sign Code Update - The City of Gig Harbor has to update the City's Sign Code in relation to a Supreme Court Decision (Reed vs. the Town of Gilbert). An open house is scheduled for April 6th at 5PM at the Civic Center where staff will provide education on the impact of the Reed decision and identify areas of the Sign Code that are required to change to meet the ruling. The Commission will present their general approach for the code update and ask for comments and input from the community.

The focus of this first outreach meeting is to gain input, feedback, and preferences on how to address temporary signs in the public right-of-way (off-premise under our current code). This includes consideration of limitations based upon location, timeframe, size, design, permitting, sign materials, and other aspects that may not have been included.
We are inviting anyone who may have a use for a temporary sign (garage sales, realty signs, businesses, politicians, general public) and request your input on this daunting task.

This project has just begun and will continue through the spring and summer, it is anticipated that Planning Commission will draft a recommended ordinance late summer. City Council will hold public hearings on the draft ordinance in late fall, early winter 2017.

For more information please tune to www.GigHarborPlanning.com for regular updates and links to materials, or
contact Senior Planner, Lindsey Sehmel.
