Arc Advocacy
The Arc of Greater Beaumont Advocates IDD funding in Texas
As the 2013 Texas Congressional Session is set to begin The Arc of Greater Beaumont, in coordination with Spindletop Center, hosted a Legislative Breakfast December 13, 2012. The breakfast allowed members of the Southeast Texas Community to voice to local legislators their concerns before the upcoming session. Arc Executive Director, Gary R. Hidalgo, was one of the speakers at the Breakfast and spoke to the benefits of closing some Texas State Supported Living Centers (State Schools) and utilizing that funding for group homes and local community centers.
In 2013, the Southeast Texas Self Advocates and Arc parents will be traveling to Austin to speak to legislators on the importance of continued funding for individuals with IDD. |
Empowered for Employment
The Arc of Greater Beaumont's Job Training Program
The Arc of Greater Beaumont is proud to offer the "Empowered for Employment" program, a specially designed programs to teach Arc members, people who have intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), how to obtain and retain employment. 90% percent of the special needs population served by the Arc of Greater Beaumont are low income citizens who are traditionally under served and who do not have access to the technology and training needed to apply for and acquire meaningful employment in today's technology-rich work environment. The "Empowered for Employment' program is unique to other job training services in Southeast Texas, because it is created solely for individuals with IDD. The program is designed to achieve its goals with three major strategies- education, training and Internet support. This program was made possible by a grant through AT&T. For more information on this exciting program please call (409)838-9012. |
