A short video clip of President and CEO of Barnabas Center, Wanda Lanier acknowledging the importance of our community partners as she accepts the Local Focus - Lasting Impact award given by the Nonprofit Center of NE Florida To her left, , Melanie Patz and Stephen Lee.

Barnabas Center won a regional “Collective Power” award from the Nonprofit Center of Northeast Florida at their annual awards luncheon held in late June in Jacksonville.  The award recognizes Barnabas as a collaborative leader in northeast Florida in making an impact in the health of those who are uninsured.  This year, the Nonprofit Center presented two awards, Collective Power and Social Innovation.  Each award includes a grand prize of an agency video produced by WJCT, and a small cash prize generously provided by Florida Blue.
“Barnabas was honored to have been selected to receive this prestigious award.  We have been effective in providing affordable, quality health care to uninsured adults in Nassau County because of the strong partnerships we have with many organizations, most importantly Baptist Health and Baptist Medical Center Nassau”,  Wanda Lanier said during her acceptance.
Local Focus. Lasting Impact.™ is the nonprofit community’s vision and multi-year strategy to unite and strengthen the Northeast Florida nonprofit sector.
The Nonprofit Center, with critical support from The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida and the Jessie Ball duPont Fund, developed the first-ever nonprofit sector branding campaign, focusing on the economic impact and social value delivered by local nonprofits.

Barnabas Helps Save Lives in Nassau County

Quite often, one's health can become overwhelming to an individual. Proper treatment has its own host of challenges. Barnabas Center offers healthcare solutions and treatment for the uninsured  Here's one of our patient's stories.

Ms. A is a 55 year old woman with multiple medical problems, including heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid and pancreas problems.  She was treated by our medical team over one year ago and was subsequently able to get health insurance.  However, she could not maintain insurance coverage due to the high cost of premiums.                                                                               She returned to Barnabas with recurrent chest pain and she was diagnosed with anginal pains due to another blocked vessel in her heart.  She was referred to Baptist Heart Specialists through our Nassau Cares program and received a heart catheterization and two stents.  Her chest pain has improved and she is grateful for the critical services provided.  Our medical team continues to follow her for her other medical conditions.

  July's Angel
Say Hello to little Miss Sloan Kirkpatrick. She popped into the food pantry with her Mom recently and we found out it was her birthday!
But instead of presents, Sloan asked her friends and fellow Girl Scouts to help her make a big donation to the food pantry. As a result of her efforts, she brought us 82 lbs of donated food. Bless you, Sloan!
Recently, Kaitlyn Chana from Action News Jax read our story in the Westside Journal about the SnackPacks program. The following day she came to Barnabas her video-grapher,  interviewed Wanda Lanier  and shot a story in our food pantry. That led to a donor making a $25,000 donation to next years SnackPacks program. Check out the video above.
  Your IRA Can
Help Barnabas!

There are many ways that you can help Barnabas connect our neighbors in need to help and hope- from volunteering to donating items to our New to You Resale Store.  And, for our donors in their 70s-there's a way you can turn your IRA into a wonderful charitable gift with many lasting benefits - both for you and for Barnabas!
It's now permissible to contribute individual retirement account (IRA) assets to charity, free from federal taxes, annually.  This continues to be good news because, prior to 2006, all lifetime distributions from IRAs were taxed, even those that were given to charity.
The Pension Protection Act of 2006 (PPA) permitted individuals to roll over up to $100,000 from an IRA account directly to a qualifying charity without recognizing the assets transferred to the qualifying charity as income.  Fortunately, in 2015, Congress passed an act to make this unique charitable giving opportunity permanent.  Single and married individuals 70.5 and older are eligible to give in this way from their individual retirement accounts.
Your gift will impact our important work of connecting people to help and hope right here in Nassau county!  For more information, please contact Tania Yount, Chief Development Officer, at (904) 261-7000 ext. 107 or [email protected].
