Are you doing community service this holiday season?
The third line of the promise reminds us "To help people at all times," and what better time to do that, than during the holiday season? Many people are lonely around this time of year and need a little extra TLC. Community service is a pillar of Girl Scouts and the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. Service to others will help the girls discover that they can act on behalf of others by taking action in their communities to make things better. It will help them to connect with people they might never have met otherwise. When they take action and pitch in they will see no matter how small they are, they can make a difference. Don't know what to do with your girls? Don't worry. There are many age appropriate community service projects out there. Read More |

Did you enjoy Summer Camp?
It's not too early to start thinking about helping a day camp or summer program in your area become a reality. Forms to sign up your team (Director, Assistant Director, and Business Manager) are available. At this time, council has made arrangements to include an incentive that will cover the cost of the camp fee for the children of volunteers who hold the three positions listed above. Talk now with the volunteers in your area to get a team together. Not sure how it works, give me a call and I'll walk you through. Only areas with a team will be allowed to move forward with planning a camp. Our first meeting will be in December as teams form. For more information contact Kara Guillory @ 1-800-960-2093 or kguillory@gslpg.org.

Girl Scout Traditions
Let us not forget the tradtions of Girl Scouting. This time of year we have new girls that need to be invested into Girl Scouts, and we might have girls that need to bridge up to the next level. If you have questions about any of the tradtions in Girl Scouting or ceremonies please visit www.girlscouts.org.

Socialites
The year has ended for our media girls group the Socialites. It is time for a new round. Socialites gives the girls a chance to practice communication skills, both in a small group setting and in public venues. If you have an interest in storytelling, photography, radio, television, writing, or just want to make new friends and have a little fun, then Socialites is the place for you. Please check back next month for training schedules and dates.

Update on Property Decision
At the board meeting on September 29, 2012 in Alexandria, La., the board of directors engaged in a discussion surrounding the Girl Scouts of Louisiana - Pines to the Gulf (GSLPG) properties with an emphasis on the Indian Creek Property. At the June 2012 board meeting, the board decision was made to pursue the sale of this property based on a 3 year study and evaluation. As a result of additional discussion in September, the board's decision was to engage in further study of all properties, inclusive of Indian Creek. As a result of this decision, no action or decision pertaining to any GSLPG camp properties will be taken until January 2013 to allow for the further evaluation. This decision allows the Indian Creek Property to remain open for use at present time
