For those who are new to Merrimack this year, Sweeps Week is an annual event sponsored by the Office of Campus Ministry and Sustainable Merrimack that takes place during finals week. Sweeps Week encourages students as they leave campus to donate reusable items instead of throwing them away. In addition, Sweeps Week is intended to promote the recycling of any materials that students would otherwise throw out during the moving-out process. Ultimately, the week highlights sustainability awareness on campus and also provides for those in need within our local communities through the following agencies: Lazarus House, Mission of Deeds, and the Wish Project.
These agencies have expanded their donation list this year to include larger items, such as televisions and futons. Although expansion is wonderful, this also means that we need even more help than we have in the past, collecting from the residence halls, sorting, boxing, etc. The storage site for most items and the place we will gather for our volunteer shifts will continue to be the basement of Monican, with other potential venues dependent upon the campus response.
Sweeps Week will take place April 30-May 14, and the agencies will be picking up items on May 15. We will ask people to take small shifts throughout the week, and will need more hands as the week goes on as more students leave campus. The college is encouraging supervisors to allow their staff to volunteer. This is a campus-wide event that will benefit many people in need, and we need campus support! Send your availability to Meg Costantini at costantinim@merrimack.edu or x-5309, and she will assign a 2-3 hour time slot for you, as well as let you know the details of your service. Meg will also be happy to answer any questions you may have regarding the program.

"The Campus Ministry Council will consist of four committees of students, as well as at-large members. The Council's goal is to help Campus Ministry better minister to students at Merrimack College. Council members will meet once a month to help plan for events, think about long-term improvements to Campus Ministry and help get the word out about Campus Ministry's awesomeness."
This year, students and Campus Ministry staff have worked hard to create a model for a Campus Ministry Council made up of students. We have realized that as an office, we are operating at about 50% capacity without the talent and input of our students.
This council would allow students the opportunity to help us brainstorm about the long term mission of Campus Ministry, prepare for Campus Ministry sponsored events, and get the word out about the awesomeness of Campus Ministry on Merrimack's campus.
Students will serve on one of four committees or as an at-large committee member. Students would attend one meeting a month. The committees are titled:
- Retreats
- Service
- Liturgy and Prayer
- Communications and Special Projects
