Join Us at the Fall Municipal Roundtable - November 29th
On Tuesday, November 29th, the MVTMA will host its annual Fall Municipal Roundtable at Putnam Investments in Andover. Featured guests include Andrew Flanagan, Andover Town Manager and Paul Materazzo, Andover's Planning Director. At the meeting, we will discuss anticipated property, water and sewer tax rates and learn the status on a variety of other town projects. Enjoy an intimate setting with town officials to get your company's questions heard. Please RSVP by November 23rd to Andrea Leary. We hope you can join us!
For its 20th Birthday, the MVTMA will develop a Strategic Plan
In 2017, the Merrimack Valley TMA will turn 20! Founded in 1997 as the River Road TMA, the TMA has had the pleasure of assisting our members with many transportation and infrastructure projects over the years. In "honor" of our 20 years of service to our members, the TMA will create and execute on a strategic plan. We have hired the consulting firm Ease Consult to assist us with this endeavor and we will be calling on many of our members for input as we work to enhance the value of the TMA so we can serve you well for yet another 20 years!
MBTA Explores Changes to Payment Structure
In late September, the MBTA announced new capabilities coming down the pike for how commuters can pay for public transportation in the Boston metropolitan area. By 2018, riders will be able to:
Pay by phone or credit card at all stops
Have their CharlieCards read at all doors/gates
Tap in and out on all stops
Integrate their trips with transportation network companies (TNCs) like Uber, Lyft and the Ride
MVTMA Executive Director Andrea Leary attended the Association for Commuter Transportation (ACT) National's Inaugural Transportation Demand Management (TDM) Forum October 11th and 12th in Boston. The conference was packed with TDM professionals from across the country and Congressman Michael Capuano (MA-7; member of the House Transportation Committee) gave the opening remarks. Kenneth Kimmell, President of the Union of Concerned Scientist (UCS) provided the key note address.
After the conference, Ms. Leary met with Dan Gatti from UCS for initial conversations about how the TMA can collaborate with the organization to help the state achieve GHG emissions reductions and help our members to comply with the Department of Environmental Protection's (DEP) Rideshare Regulation.
The holiday season is almost upon us and the MVTMA is back with another Holiday Promotion. Details will be coming out via email soon but it will involve our website and a short quiz (it will be easy, we promise!). Shiny new gift cards will be raffled off to three lucky winners. Stay tuned!
