It's not just a holiday...

Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, was born out of the Civil War and is a day of remembrance for those who have died in service of the United States of America. Congressional passing of the National Holiday Act in 1971 made the last Monday of May a federal holiday in observance of Memorial Day. The National Moment of Remembrance resolution asks that at 3 p.m. local time, all Americans voluntarily and informally observe a moment of remembrance and respect, pausing from whatever they’re doing for a moment of silence or listening to Taps. In 1915 Moina Michael began the Memorial Day tradition of wearing and selling poppies to honor and benefit servicemen in need.

In observance of Memorial Day, St. Louis REALTORS® office will be closed from 3 p.m. on Friday, May 25 through Monday, May 28. We’ll be open regular business hours Tuesday morning, May 29. Click   here for Taps, performed by United States Navy Band.

Are your buyer-offers being presented to the seller?
The National Association of REALTORS® Board of Directors at its meeting in Washington D.C. on May 19 approved a big change to Code of Ethics Standard of Practice 1-7. A listing broker or agent is required to respond in writing that an offer was submitted to the seller if the cooperating broker who submitted the offer so requests. The listing broker or agent must respond in the affirmative unless the seller has provided written notification waiving the obligation to have the offer presented.

“There’s been real frustration by a lot of brokers, especially in busy markets, that they’re not sure if their offers were even looked at,” said Colin Mullane, broker-owner in Ashland, Oregon and NAR regional vice president. “That kind of thing breaks down the spirit of cooperation. This is a way to restore that.”

What is Article 1 of the NAR Code of Ethics?

When representing a buyer, seller, landlord, tenant, or other client as an agent, REALTORS® pledge themselves to protect and promote the interests of their client. This obligation to the client is primary, but it does not relieve REALTORS® of their obligation to treat all parties honestly. When serving a buyer, seller, landlord, tenant or other party in a non-agency capacity, REALTORS® remain obligated to treat all parties honestly.
It's not "I must" or "you must", it's WE MUST take action...
