Ben & Jerry's: Friend or Foe?
|
Last Saturday, we partnered with Ben & Jerry's at
World Fair Trade Day last Saturday. We were excited to share free ice cream but our partnership is complicated.
Ben & Jerry's, like the PJC, is committed to supporting and promoting Fair Trade. Unfortunately, these principles haven't been applied domestically to achieve fair labor standards in local supply chains. Ben & Jerry's has an opportunity to change this now by joining the worker-led
Milk With Dignity Program and securing the human rights of dairy workers right here in its own backyard....

Worth Celebrating: Divestment Works!
|
Great news! American company Textron has
announced
it will end its involvement with cluster munitions. This is wonderful news and truly a victory for the global campaign against cluster munitions showcasing the valuable contribution divestment makes to disarmament...
Efforts continue in Vermont to pressure UVM to divest from banks that invest in fossil fuels. Be in touch if you want to learn more and to get involved.

Stop by the store on Saturday and Sunday afternoons to welcome Luca to the PJC staff!
I'm Luca (they/them & she/her) and I've lived in the Burlington area for six years. While here, I've spent my time working with a number of local nonprofits and organizing efforts, including working to implement Restorative Justice practices in Burlington High School, Outright Vermont, Planned Parenthood, and Migrant Justice. My interests lie in building united working class movements against white supremacy and militarized police while engaging in queer and trans resistance.
I'm excited to have the opportunity through the Peace and Justice Center to connect with folks from around New England about the ways exploitation occurs under capitalism and to continue to build networks with local organizers and nonprofits around regional and national issues of race, class, and gender.
Best,
Luca
