April 19, 2017
Sisters and brothers,

Holy Week and Easter were exhausting, but they were also fabulous!  I heard many compliments on the liturgies we celebrated together.  Now that Easter Sunday has passed, one would think that things would be easing up, but NOT HERE!  It seems like we're on a roll with lots of stuff coming our way!( See the articles below!)

Note the various guests we have lined up: Bishop Floyd, Bishop Rafe and Rev. Leslie - What a treat!  What a wonderful opportunity to invite friends and family to join you in worship.  Take advantage of all of these special opportunities to not only hear and welcome our ecumenical friends but to help us celebrate on May 7th as we officially bring in new members.

I am happy to report that the Vestry has approved the purchase of a new set of double doors for the main entrance.  We have submitted a request for approval to the Historic folks and once we hear back (assuming it is approved) we'll get the doors ordered.  Hopefully in a few week's we'll have a handsome entrance to welcome visitors and guests.

Lastly, as noted below, Br. Ray and I will be zipping up to Reading, PA to pick up the new (antique) lights that were purchased.  While in Reading, we'll be worshiping with our former parishioners before zipping back home with lights in tow.  Once here, they'll be cleaned, rewired and prepared for installation.  I for one can't wait to see them!

Blessings!

Fr. Dewayne

Holy Week & Easter Sunday Helpers!

A big
"T H A N Y O U !
to all of those who participated and helped with our Holy Week and Easter activities... our magnificent Choir led by Mark, our Lay Assistants, Readers, Crucifers, Thurifer, Hospitality folks, Flower folks, Decorators, those who brought all the goodies for our Easter brunch -- what a great family we have here to make for such a special Easter celebration!

Floyd Schoenhals, ELCA Bishop Emeritus to be With Us April 30th

The retired Lutheran Bishop, Floyd Schoenhals, be with us again on April 30th to celebrate our worship while Br Ray and Fr. Dewayne travel to Pennsylvania to pick up our new sanctuary lights!

After 45 years of ministry and 16 years as a bishop in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, the Rev. Floyd Schoenhals retired in 2011. Bishop  Schoenhals, oversaw the 56 ELCA congregations in Oklahoma, Arkansas and part of Texas through a challenging time, not just for Lutherans, but for mainline denominations of every stripe, including LGBT issues.

Over the years, Schoenhals has been active in ecumenical and interfaith work in the community and has received numerous awards and honors.  He currently serves as the Director of Ministerial Formation, ELCA, at Phillips Theological Seminary. The ELCA has full communion agreements with several denominations, including Episcopal, United Methodist and Presbyterian Church USA churches.  Our own denomination, the ECC, is considering the possibility of beginning an official dialogue with them.

Bishop Raphael is Coming May 7th!

Our Diocesan Bishop, The Rt. Rev. Raphael Adams, ofr, will be with us on May 7th for the Sacrament of Confirmation and the Rite of Reception for those who participated in our Membership class!

Potluck Scheduled on Membership Sunday

Following worship on May 7th, we'll have a Family Potluck to officially welcome our newest members as well as Bishop Raphael, our Diocesan Bishop.  So plan on joining in.  Folks are welcome to bring a side-dish to share!

After potluck, Bishop Rafe will also speak to us about mission and ministry among GenZs (those younger than GenXers).  Old ways of getting folks in to church simply won't work with the younger crowd.  So we have to begin learning about what does speak to them.

Rev. Leslie Dotson to Preach May 14th

To continue our "celebrity" attractions, the Rev. Leslie Dotson will also be our Guest Preacher on Mother's Day, May 14th!  Leslie serves as an Associate Regional Minister of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

Leslie received her Master of Divinity from Phillips Theological Seminary in 2002. She served as NE area Youth Pastor during seminary and Community Christian Church (Tulsa) and Disciples Christian Church (Owasso) before her call to regional ministry.

She is active within the interfaith community through Tulsa Interfaith Alliance and Tulsa Metropolitan Ministries and the CAVU center. Leslie is a certified disaster spiritual care leader.

Prayer for Church Growth and Attendance

God, you are the source of life and growth.  Pour out your Spirit upon us that we may grow together in wisdom, love, devotion, and faithfulness. Stir up within us a desire to draw closer as one family. Give us a yearning for outreach, that we may serve a hurting world; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever.   Amen.
