Sisters and brothers:

Last week I encouraged folks to be in worship for two big events: The Feast of the Transfiguration and the Dedication of the new Church Doors.  (The doors are beautiful aren't they?!?)  The church doors were dedicated in memory of Michael Surbaugh, Elvira de Martinez, Carlene Sanchez and Mary Messenger.

This week we have three things to celebrate that hopefully will entice you to join us for worship:

First, this Sunday is our annual Tie-Dyed Sunday.  It is a fun time to come and show off your loudest, most outrageous tie-dyed outfit.  (Come on, you know you want to participate!)

Second, this Sunday is the Sunday before the Feast of St. Mary.  As has been our custom, we will honor St. Mary and her prominence to the Christian faith by saying together the Angelus - which are prayers based on the Angel's greeting to Mary as recorded in scripture.  We'll pray the Angelus together at the end of the worship service.

Third, we are planning to begin the process of painting the church ceiling.  As this is taking place we will also begin installing our new lights.  While this make take several weeks to accomplish, (please bear with us!) we would like to bless the new (antique) lights before they are installed.  We'll bless these lights in the midst of the worship service.

As a side note, I'd like to highlight the "A Friend for A Friend" fundraiser event on Saturday night.  See below!

If these three things aren't enough, what more might it take for you to get yourself to church?  These are exciting times!  Who says Summers are "ordinary?"

Blessings!

Fr. Dewayne

Scripture Readings for Sunday

Meanwhile, some Midianite traders passed by and pulled Joseph out of the pit. [Joseph's brothers] sold him for twenty pieces of silver to the Ishmaelites, who took Joseph with them to Egypt.

17 You sent a man before them, *
Joseph, who was sold as a slave.
20 The king sent and released him; *
the ruler of the peoples set him free.
21 He set him as a master over his household,
as a ruler over all his possessions,
22 To instruct his princes according to his will *
and to teach his elders wisdom.

Everyone who calls on the name of the Most High will be saved.

...Jesus spoke to them and said, "Take heart, it is I; do not be afraid."

Prayer List Update  *

Over the past several months our prayer request list has continued to grow.  While we want to be a "prayerful people", we want to make sure that our prayer list is current, lest it simply becomes overwhelming. The church office has recently removed some names of folks who have been on our list for quite a while.  If we've removed someone who NEEDS to remain on the list, please let us know, and we'll add them back on.  If you know of someone who is doing better and could come off, please let us know that, too.  You can contact the church office at:

Giving Statements-One last notice
*PLEASE RE-READ*

It has come to our attention that the link (below) to contact Donna Eastham was entered incorrectly. If you have clicked on the link in the last couple of weeks, your message was not-- repeat, was not--received. The typo has been corrected, so please try again, so that Donna will actually receive your request.

Again , if you would like a mid-year statement, please contact our Treasurer,  Donna Eastham, to verify that your contributions to date have been received and entered correctly. You  may also want to adjust your pledge, as your circumstances may have changed--favorably or otherwise--since you made your pledge last fall. Please let Donna know if you would like to make an adjustment, and she can make that change in our church's financial system.

Thanks to each of you for your generosity!

For Everyone with a Big Heart...

for
Food Pantry Leader

As you no doubt have heard, Karl Villadsen submitted his resignation as Food Pantry Coordinator during the July Vestry meeting.  He will continue in his leadership capacity through the rest of this calendar year.  We are so grateful for Karl's dedicated service; we are also very grateful that he shared his plans early enough that we have time to find his replacement.

We are, of course, now looking for someone to take over as the lead person for this ministry.  Or, it could be that several folks could collaborate to share the various duties, thereby preventing the job's becoming burdensome for any one person.

The Food Pantry is the biggest and most visible ministry we have, and almost all of those who benefit from it are folks outside our parish family.   If you have a heart for this important service and some time--no matter how limited--to dedicate to this wonderful and vital ministry, please visit with Raul Rosario or Fr. Dewayne Messenger and discuss how you might be able to share your talents.

Painting and Wine Party, Aug 19th

Have you ever wanted to take painting lessons but were afraid that you might not have the talent?  Have you ever wanted a chance to brush up on your paint strokes?  Have you ever wanted to paint like Picasso?   Then consider joining in on the Painting and Wine Party slated for Saturday, August 19th.  The cost is $35 and includes all your art supplies and a glass of wine! Contact Joyce Lynch for details.

St. Jerome to Host a Seminarian

We are pleased to announce that Theo Simatupang will soon be joining our parish family.  Theo was a seminarian at the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC before being received into our denomination, the Ecumenical Catholic Communion, by way of the ECC Diocese of California. Theo is from Indonesia and has been in the US for several years - working first with the Franciscan Mission in Arizona and then with the Capuchin (Franciscan) order.

Theo will be serving our parish in various ministries and hopes to resume his seminary studies this Spring.

Prayer for Church Growth and Attendance

God, you are the source of life and growth.  Pour out your Spirit upon us that we may grow together in wisdom, love, devotion, and faithfulness. Stir up within us a desire to draw closer as one family. Give us a yearning for outreach, that we may serve a hurting world; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever.   Amen.
