February 8, 2018
Sisters and brothers,

First, I want to thank all of you for allowing Br. Ray and me to have some vacation time away!  What a blessing!  We had spectacular weather in Mexico.   I also want to thank Bishop Rick, who served as our Celebrant in my absence. I understand that most of you behaved yourselves.  Everyone's attendance while I am away is always appreciated!  Thank you!

This Sunday marks the ending of the season following the Epiphany.  Lent is quickly approaching!  It would be a good time to highlight our Fat Tuesday/Mardi Gras/Cajun Celebration this Tuesday.  It has become the tradition in New Orleans to mark the beginning of Lent with one last blow-out or hurrah, before everyone knuckles down to their Lenten disciplines.  So Tuesday is a day to celebrate and enjoy food, fun and fellowship.  We invite you to spread the news about our Mardi Gras/Fat Tuesday fundraiser.  The food will be fantastic!

As I stated, Lent begins next week,  so I want to strongly urge you to get yourself to church on Ash Wednesday.  Do your best to take part in this observance.  As is our custom, we will offer a noon service for those who work downtown as well as those who might not be able to make our evening service.  That simple, spoken, noon-time service will be held in the chapel and should take about 45 minutes.  Then at 7 p.m. we'll have our regular Ash Wednesday service in the nave, complete with choir and organ.  Both services will include the imposition of ashes and Holy Eucharist.

This Lent, I have decided to modifying our liturgy from years past and use parts of the liturgy found in the Anglican Missal.  So, rather than beginning with the Decalogue (10 Commandments), or the Great Litany, the service will begin with a penitential rite based on selected Psalms.  The opening liturgy will take place in front of the altar rails.  We will seek repentance and absolution before entering the sanctuary and altar.  It is a reminder that we should approach God with humility, solemnity, and reverence.

Lastly, some of you may note that I have posted an invitation to our Hispanic sisters and brothers (and their spouses, partners, friends and supporters) - encouraging them to join me for lunch and discussion on February 18th.  I want to hear from you regarding how we might be more welcoming and supportive and what we might do to grow this segment of our community.

Blessings and Shalom!

Fr. Dewayne

One More Thank you from Danny's Family

St. Jerome members,

Thank you for the help and support you provide to many people in need.  As our mother recently passed away, we appreciated that so many of you attended the visitation or funeral, provided flowers & messages of sincere condolences.  We would like to donate this money to your food pantry as a memorial to our mother, Theda, so you may continue to give to those who need help.

Sincerely,
Danny, Randy, & Sherry
The Cook family

 Daytimers  Announces a Change!
Now Meeting on Thursdays!

The St. Jerome Daytimers is a group whose members meet weekly to socialize and support each other in their spiritual journeys. The group meets in the daytime as a convenience for folks who work at night or for whom it's just easier to attend meetings during the day rather than at night.

The members of the Daytimers Group have made a change in their meeting schedule. They will now meet on Thursdays instead of Fridays. This change is to accommodate changing schedules and obligations.

If you have been unable to attend on Fridays, this change may allow you to join them. Everyone is welcome!

Scripture Readings for Sunday
As [Elijah and Elisha] continued walking and talking, suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah ascended in a whirlwind into heaven. Elisha kept watching and crying out, "Father! My father! The chariots and cavalry of Israel!" And Elisha saw no more.

 Psalm 50:1-6

 O God, you will come and will not keep silence;
before you there is a consuming flame,
and round about you a raging storm.

  2 Corinthians 4:3-6

For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," has shone in our hearts, so that we in turn might make known the glory of God shining on the face of Christ.

Mark 9:2-9

Then a cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud there came a voice, "This is my Son, the Beloved; listen to him!" Suddenly when they looked around, they saw no one with them any more, but only Jesus.

Ordination of The Rev. Denise Donato
Assisting Bishop
The First Female Bishop for the
Ecumenical Catholic Communion

The Rev. Denise Donato will be ordained as Auxiliary Bishop to Bishop Francis Krebs, the Ecumenical Catholic Communion's Presiding Bishop this Friday, February 9.  As Auxiliary Bishop, Denise will serve as the pastoral Bishop for those parishes not affiliated with a Diocese.  This will primarily affect our sister parishes in Colorado, Pennsylvania, New York, Massachusetts, and Florida.

"Join with me in giving thanks to God for this great gift. Denise is a remarkable person, with whom I have had the pleasure to collaborate on many occasions over the years. I look forward to serving collaboratively with her as my colleague in episcopal service!" says Bishop Krebs.

We at St. Jerome Church add our congratulations and our prayers to all those in the ECC for Rev. Donato's ministry and new level of responsibility.

If, due to weather conditions, Fr. Dewayne and the Vestry determine that it is unsafe to hold services, an announcement will go out via these methods:

(1)   Our Church app;
(2)  Our Facebook page;
(3)    Our website - please see the gold "Announcement" block at the top right hand side of the page.
(4)    KRMG. KRMG will share our information on-air, online, on the KRMG App, and with sister stations KWEN-K95.5FM, KRAV-MIX 96, and KJSR-Eagle 103.3.

Assuming that there is power and the internet is working, we will try to send out a blast email to everyone through our Power Church database program.

If winter weather has you wondering if our doors are open, please consult one of those sources to find the answer. As always, you must determine if it's safe to make the trip--even if we are open. Be safe!
