BIOGRAPHICAL
Lauren
A. Mills has won national acclaim in her recent debut as a sculptor
and earlier for her career as a book author and illustrator. Her
work has exhibited in galleries and museums across the country
including at the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Lyman Allen
Art Musem, Radcliffe College and the Lyme Academy of Fine Arts.
Her book illustrations are included in the collections of Keene
State University, University of Connecticut at Storrs, and the
Mazza Collection , Finlay, Ohio. Mills' books have won top awards,
including, The Golden Kite Best Book Award and the Charlotte Award
for best picture book. Her stories have been performed by
storytellers and actors across the country and on the radio. The
Rag Coat was performed as a ballet by the University of Utah. Her
first bronze of Bacchus won three national awards and her
sculpture, "Legacy" was commissioned by the Heritage Park, Lake
Winona, Indiana, 2008.

Introduction to Portrait Sculpture:
Sept. 15 - Oct. 13
Wednesdays, 10-1pm
As an introduction to understanding sculpting
realistically from life, students will sculpt the planes of the
head as well as skull at half life size. This is invaluable
information and experience to have to help one understand the
structure of the human head. It is also an invaluable tool for
painters.

Portrait Sculpture from Life:
Oct 20 - Dec 1 (No Class on Nov 24)
Wednesdays, 10-1pm
Students will sculpt life size from a live model. We will
continue to discuss the planes of the head and underlying
skull.

Beginning Sculpture:
Sept. 15 - 0ct. 13
Wednessdays, 1:30-4:30pm
Students will sculpt from classical casts of features, feet
and hands to understand how to render form three dimensionally from
observation. Tools, techniques, and the history and tradition of
sculpture will be discussed. This is a great introduction to
learning
to sculpt the model from life.

Figure Sculpture:
Oct. 20 - Dec 1 (No Class on Nov 24)
Wendesdays, 1:30-4:30pm
Students will work from a live model for one pose. We will
start with a 24" wire armature and work on getting the right
gesture. Anatomy, proportion, volume, tools and measuring
techniques will be discussed.
