Art in the Barn
Renowned Pownal, Maine artist
Lois Strickland will display her paintings exploring "the mystery and magic of nature" beginning with a free opening in the barn from 6-8 PM
on Friday, July 12.
Strickland grew up around the country, but returned to her father's native Maine for schooling and made it her permanent home. She draws her inspiration from an intimate connection with a natural subject, and her work continues to speak through dialogue with the viewer.
Strickland has recent exhibits of large works on the "Art Wall" in central Auburn and a 4' by 16' triptych of "The Great Falls" at Mechanics Savings Bank. As a self-educated artist, she is drawn to various impressionists and post-impressionists like Klimt and Wolf Kahn. Strickland works directly on the surface, loosely sketching with paint, building layers of color, and slowly adding definition and details. The display will also include poetry by Whitney Gray/Newry Maine, Alan Liska/Portland Maine, Mary Leigh Hanson/Portland Maine
Join us Friday, July 12th to meet and talk with Lois and enjoy a twilight stroll in the garden. Light snacks and refreshments will be served.
