PROGRAMMING
Summer Job Program Is off to a Great Start! SJP

On June 23rd, Art with a Heart began the ninth year of its Summer Job Program. This year, the Program has expanded to two new sites: YES Drop In Center and TurnAround, Inc. These two sites are in addition to Rose Street Basic Center, a partner of the Summer Job Program since its inception in 2006.

Save the date for the fourth annual Shop & Bop on August 1st at 5:00 pm. Shop & Bop is a celebration of the Summer Job Program, its students, and the exhibition and sale of their artistic creations. For the second year, Art with a Heart will partner with The Gathering to bring Baltimore's best food trucks and live music to the celebration. Stay tuned for further details.

Students in the Summer Job Program create marketable works of art while learning soft job skills, building community, and having fun!
Transforming Life Summer Camp camp

In Art with a Heart's new program at Transforming Life Summer Camp, students are learning STEM principles (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) through Art with a Heart's educational and innovative art curriculum.

Elementary age students in Transforming Life Summer Camp learn about fractions while creating mixed media pizza collages.
Extreme Resource Room Makeover guilford

For the past several months, Art with a Heart worked with students at Guilford Elementary/Middle School to beautify their family resource room. The students did a great job and the end result is a total transformation!

Painted ceiling tiles, paper mache stars, flashies, painted cork board frames, and a pop art trashcan all came together to transform Guilford Elementary/Middle School's family resource room.
Don't forget to like Art with a Heart's Facebook Page! We will be sharing pictures of our students' abundant creativity throughout the summer.
COMMUNITY tree

The "Ashkemore" Tree Arrives in Penn Station

Throughout June and July, The "Ashkemore" tree, a sculptural tree commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Baltimore-Ashkelon Partnership, is taking root in Baltimore's Penn Station. If you are in the Station, take a look in the main passenger concourse, you can't miss it.

A special thank you to Xibitz, Inc. for donating the stanchions for our exhibit.
The Gift of Volunteering fair

On June 1st, Art with a Heart facilitated a workshop for Repair the World's Summer is Coming Volunteer Fair at Patterson Park. Community children, volunteers, staff, and service partners of Repair the World created colorful CD weavings that will be used to beautify an outdoor space of an Art with a Heart community partner site.

A great time was had by all at Repair the World's Summer is Coming Volunteer Fair.
NACE Picnic at St. Vincent's Villa nace

For the past 14 years, the National Association for Catering and Events (NACE) has generously sponsored a picnic for the children of St. Vincent's Villa in Timonium, Maryland. Art with a Heart was delighted to facilitate an art project at the picnic.

At the 14th annual NACE picnic, children from St. Vincent's Villa created whimsical spirit dolls using found objects and recycled materials.
Gilman Middle School Faculty Service Day gilman

Thank you to all the middle school faculty from Gilman School who volunteered at Art with a Heart for a day of service. The group worked on a painting project that will beautify the auditorium at Woodhome Elementary/Middle School.

Volunteer Spotlight spotlight

Jesse, a rising junior at Gilman School, is not only a consistent Art with a Heart HeART Helper on Friday afternoons, he also spent the start of his summer vacation volunteering in Art with a Heart classes and at various community service events. Jesse instantly bonded with several residents of Gallagher Services (left) and engaged with children from Goochland Baptist Church (right) during their recent day of service. Thank you, Jesse, for your kindness, compassion, and wonderful sense of service.

NEWS
Imagine Our Surprise! california

Art with a Heart received a generous donation from two high school students in California. The students discovered Art with a Heart online and became interested in its mission. We are moved by these students' interest and understanding of Art with a Heart's work and their desire to help.
Learning through Art with a Heart Internships acce

Each year, we proudly watch students grow through their internship at Art with a Heart. Keenan was no exception, and he wrote about his experience in the following letter to Art with a Heart:

"I had a lot of fun at internship. The skills that you taught me were way more important than I thought. I see art as more personal for me now. I know more things than I did before. It was something that I will never forget, and I love my Art with a Heart family!"

We Love a Full House! interns

With a busy summer programming schedule, abundant community events, and on-going public art projects, we are truly grateful to have a full house of interns and service learning students. We welcome Ashley, Breanne, Christina, Dianna, Eleanore, Jessica, Josie, Karena, Lauren, Meghan, Paula, Rosalind, and Tatianna from local colleges and universities.

Additionally, we welcome new and returning service-learning students from Bridges, Diversity and Academic Advancement Summer Institute, and YouthWorks. Ashon, Deon, and Kamal join returning students' Angel, Daleth, Kaylah, and Kristina who are all working with staff members, interns, and participants of Art with a Heart's Summer Job Program.

Art with a Heart thanks all of you for your enthusiasm, help, and support.
