ARTIST EDUCATION SERIES:
SESSION 1
Fine Art to Public Art:
Opportunities for Artists

TUESDAY, March 17, 2015,
5:30-7 pm

The Community Library, Ketchum

Wood River Valley Studio Tour and the Sun Valley Center for the Arts invite local artists to attend the first in a series of three artist education workshops.

This program is co-sponsored by the

Ketchum Arts Commission.

What is public art and how is it different than creating work for a gallery or commercial context? How can artists transition into public art by working with fabricators, collaborating with other artists, or thinking differently about what they design? Karen Bubb, who teaches "Public Art Academy" in Boise and is a member of a national board for public art, will provide an overview of the current public art field and specific tips on applying for projects. Artists who are interested in "breaking in" to the public art field are encouraged to attend as well as citizens interested in art in public places.

Karen Bubb holds a Masters in Public Administration, a Graduate Certificate in Community & Regional Planning, Boise State University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts, University of Oregon. Karen Bubb is Public Arts Manager for the Boise City Department of Arts & History and Capital City Development Corporation (Boise's downtown redevelopment agency). She is also an Affiliate for Boise State University's (BSU) Centre for Creativity and Innovation in the College of Business and Economics.

Karen Bubb consults and provides workshops statewide for municipalities and arts organizations regarding public art, creativity and cultural policy and is an adjunct professor at BSU. She is also an active visual artist working in many mediums including stained glass, hand-built ceramics, encaustic painting, printmaking and collage.
