2016 Doris Duke Artist Awards
The Doris Duke Charitable Foundation (DDCF) and Creative Capital are pleased to announce the recipients of the fifth annual Doris Duke Artist Awards. Appointed in recognition of their creative vitality and ongoing contributions to the fields of dance, jazz and theater, awardees will each receive $275,000 in flexible, multi-year funding as well as financial and legal counseling, professional development activities and peer-to-peer learning opportunities provided by Creative Capital, DDCF's primary partner in the awards.

New Executive Director Tracy Johnson at the Hockaday Museum
The Hockaday Museum of Art's Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Tracy Johnson has accepted the position of Executive Director and will begin her official duties on May 3, 2016. Harry Wilson, Hockaday Board President, says "Tracy, with her strong museum experience, education, and drive, will continue to raise the profile of the Hockaday as an expanding regional museum and ensure continuity of programming for the Museum's members, artists, and guests."

Montana Open Land Month, July 2016
Do you love Montana?
Does your art celebrate this incredible landscape, and the people who work and play here?
Montana Open Land Month is a celebration of Montana's outdoor heritage, a chance to honor the open lands so vital to our way of life and economy. People across Montana will celebrate during July 2016 in many ways - through social media, at events, and by sharing art/photos/writing/music.
Deadline:  The first 16-20 artists to submit will be featured/promoted when the gallery goes live in May. Artwork submitted after that date through July will be rotated in, growing this important testament to the inspiration provided by Montana's diverse open lands.

Sue Tirrell will discuss functional forms common of her work and how she relates her surface designs to these different shapes. Demonstrations will include the making of plates and her decoration process-from basic drawing to layering of underglazes to intricate sgraffito carving.

Introducing Pattern and Design for Ceramic Surfaces
Sean O'Connell will introduce students to his process through demonstrations using the potter's wheel and surface decoration techniques including: brush-work, wax and paper resist, Mishima (inlay), trailing, and carving. These demonstrations are intended to enable students to approach clay with a new perspective and confidence.

Weekend Mold Making Intensive
This workshop is suitable for mold making beginners and to students needing a refresher in moldmaking techniques. In this intensive 2-day workshop, students will have the chance to learn and create basic molds out of plaster that can be used for slip casting or press molds.
June 25-26, 10am-5pm

Festival of the Thread
The 3rd Annual 2016 "Festival of the Thread" is calling for original fiber, fabric, thread, yarn, mixed media textile works executed by the artist to be entered for a juried exhibition to be held September 2-4, 2016. Artists must be from Montana, Idaho and Wyoming.
