As my high school Latin teacher used to warn, "Tempus is fugiting".  That was his version of "tempus fugit" (English translation "time flies").  I didn't see it from his perspective then as it was a peaceful, slow paced time of life for me.  It was a time of modest routines and holidays/birthdays celebrated with simplicity.  These simple routines nurtured both peace of mind and peace of spirit.

A birthday included our special homemade cake celebrated with my parents, siblings and grandparents.  Holidays were free of extravagant complications thus allowing us to focus on the true meaning of those sacred times.  Perhaps it was my youth combined with the very nature of farm life that contributed to that tranquility, nevertheless it was a time to savor the moments free of the stressful, pending deadlines ahead.

Those words "tempus is fugiting" echo within me as I travel today's life of busyness.  We tend to be immersed in the endless "to-do" lists, the rushing about from one thing to the next.  It is children as well today who feel the time passing quickly as they too rush from one activity to the next...oftentimes with little time to merely play, to "just be children".

We often fret so over what has to be done that we fail to enjoy this moment.  When you awaken in the morning, don't stress over yesterday's mistakes or anticipate tomorrow's problem.  Instead bask in the light of the new day.  Ask God to guide you to what is truly important--to "order your steps".   (The steps of a man are established by the LORD, when he delights in his way; Ps 37:23) He will then lead you to those who need you today and provide the time, connections and the clearness of mind to accomplish that which is important...not just busyness.  To your amazement you will then find satisfaction at the end of the day knowing you were present to those who needed you and able to miraculously accomplish that of true value.  As you continue to include God in your day, you will find renewed energy and focus to accomplish that which he has intended for you to do.

We cannot change the past nor predict the future, yet we can enjoy this very moment in time.  Don't rush through life, savor it.  The following is quick prayer I pray every morning to guide my day:  "Lord, bring me to those who need me today and to those I need...so that I may help build your kingdom."

Have a peaceful month and a blessed, joy-filled Thanksgiving,
