Help others through CARITAS
It’s an unfortunate reality that CARITAS must exist because of the lack of opportunities afforded to some of our neighbors.
"It is hard to argue that housing is not a fundamental human need. Decent, affordable housing should be a basic right for everybody in this country. The reason is simple: without stable shelter, everything else falls apart.”

CARITAS helps our most vulnerable neighbors break the cycle of homelessness and move from crisis to stability. Christ Church will open our doors to CARITAS families on February 24-March 3 and YOU can help! Stop by the table in the milling area or log in to Realm and click Events to explore the various ways you can be the heart and hands of Jesus to others -- packing lunches, preparing dinner, doing laundry, staying overnight, and more.
Thanking Rev. Robin for her ministry to Christ Church
After a time of discernment and prayer, Rev. Robin Teasley has accepted the call to serve as Rector of Christ and Grace Episcopal Church in Petersburg, Virginia. Her last Sunday at Christ Church will be February 11 and we will celebrate her ministry with a reception following all worship services on February 10 and 11 . In the Episcopal Church, it is the custom to honor and support our clergy when they accept a new call. One way we do this is to collect a purse -- a non-deductible gift to be given in gratitude and thanksgiving -- to Rev. Robin for her ministry among us. If you would like to contribute, please write “Rev. Robin” on the memo line of your checks, choose “purse” in Realm Giving, or text CCE Robin to 73256.

Information Meeting this Sunday
We are grateful to have ended 2017 in a good position and be focused on Christ’s mission in 2018. Thank you for giving generously! If you’d like details about how we ended 2017 financially and what our budget plan is for 2018, please join us this Sunday, Feb. 4, at 12:00 PM in the Library.
This Sunday is Scout Sunday
Sunday, February 4 is Scout Sunday and scouts of all ages are invited wear their uniforms and participate in worship. There will be an awards recognition at our 10:45 AM service. Contact Rev. Robin Teasley or Adam Williams or for more information.
Giving is a Heart Issue
FAQ: How does the current tax law affect my giving?
With the passage of the current tax bill, donations to churches and other charities are still tax-deductible. However, because the standard deduction has gone up, you may or may not be in position to benefit from the deductibility of your gift to the church, depending on your tax bracket and your other deductions.

Since giving is a heart issue, we’re encouraged to give because it’s the right thing to do, regardless of whether you see a tax benefit. Please see your tax advisor for information specific to you.

Christ Church Episcopal is a self-sustaining church. Funding the mission of Jesus in the world is as important now as it was last year, regardless of tax laws. Your gifts make all the work we do possible, from Sunday School to Youth Mission, from Short Pump to South Sudan and Haiti.

Matthew 6:19-21: “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Youth Ministry at the Garage
There will be a special joint Youth Group & Worship this Sunday for all Mid-High and Sr. High students from 3:00-4:30 PM at the Garage. We’ll enjoy worship with the CCE Youth Choir as well as fun, fellowship, games, and food!

Also, mission trip registrations are open now in Realm Events. And mark your calendars for our annual Lenten Bible & Breakfast series beginning on Tuesday, February 20.
DONATIONS NEEDED
Lego Love for Haiti

We are collecting Lego bricks of all sizes, colors, and shapes for the children of Lilevoix, Haiti. In April, a small team from CCE will be traveling to Haiti to explore future partnerships and mission opportunities. Our mission team will deliver these toys to children when they travel there. Lego toys are wonderful because they inspire creativity, last a very long time, and don't require batteries.

Bring your donations -- new or used -- to the milling area February 10-17. If you are purchasing new Legos, please purchase basic pieces instead of thematic sets -- we will be sorting and packing the bricks into small, bagged sets.
Read & Grow
Join us for this compelling study of Haiti, so that we can better understand our fellow Christians there. We will use Philippe Girard’s book  Haiti: The Tumultuous History -- From Pearl of the Caribbean to Broken Nation . The 3 session discussion occurs Sundays at 5:00 PM, February 11, 18, and 25. Can't attend the book club? Read along anyway! To learn more and to register, log in to Realm and click Events or contact Rev. Shirley Smith Graham.
If you are taking care of children and parents ...
you may be in the "Sandwich"
Meet up on February 18
Are you in a family where you have children (young or adult) and some level of responsibility for an older parent? If so, welcome to the sandwich generation! Come, get information and support from one of our resident counselors, Terry Becker-Fritz, and find a group of others who share this reality! We’ll meet once on February 18, from 12:00–1:30 PM and talk about whether further sessions would be helpful.
