Ask An ASID Designer |
Novi Home Show

A SID Michigan will once again host the ever-popular "Ask A Designer" booth at the Novi Home Show at the Suburban Collecton Showplace from January 29th - 31st, 2016. The ASID booth will feature free mini-consultations with consumers, have platforms to educate the public about our professional organization, and demonstrate good design through four lifestyle vignettes. A special thanks goes out to ASID member Linda Shears and Sherwin Williams rep Rebecca Luckhardt for all their help with this event!

Please stay tuned for additional information that will be published over the next few weeks!

Volunteers at the 2015 Home Show.

In 1975, the American Institute of Interior Designers and the National Society of Interior Designers merged to form the American Society of Interior Designers. #MakeYour40 highlights  take a look back at some of the innovations and innovators from the past 40 years, and, just as important, highlight the people and ideas driving the future of the profession.

Thank you to all our members and Industry Partners who celebrated 40 years with ASID in 2015!
Custer is proud to be a longtime supporter of ASID and excellent design in the region. With the largest design team in West Michigan, Custer is always seeking to empower superb functionality, eye-catching form, and excellent design leadership in our community and the industry.

At Custer, we believe in empowered people. That's why, for over 30 years, Custer has created inspired spaces that empower people to do their best work. Our team delivers fully integrated interiors that are designed, built, and powered for productivity. We offer a comprehensive list of services, including the design and installation of customized multimedia technology solutions, custom architectural planning and design, furniture and finish selection, and detailed space planning. The list continues to grow as we diversify to meet our clients' full-service needs.

As we look to the future, Custer is in the process of transitioning several elements of our brand identity. In the eleven years that Custer has operated from our current building, a lot has changed. Both our company and our industry have seen marked shifts; Custer's offerings have expanded to include technology services, custom millwork, and construction and facility management, in addition to the continued development of our existing offerings. Further, the industries in which we work, from corporate environments to healthcare and education settings, have also evolved with the fast and frequent advancements of technology and information. So with more than a decade of change at work in our space, we decided to update the Custer environment to meet the future head-on.

The first phase of Custer's updated space involves our main floor reception and administration area. The space has hosted a number of functions over time, but its true intention has never been defined. Poised to finally meet its full potential, the area was renovated to meet three needs: to create an ecosystem of environments that reflect Steelcase's research and insights; to showcase Custer's full-service capabilities in interior renovations; and to create physical alignment among departments that naturally work together. All of Custer's capabilities were utilized in the renovation of our first floor showroom, demonstrating our expertise in a complete range of services.

Custer's showroom renovation will continue through the year as we adapt the rest of our space to meet our needs. Those interested in updates can stay tuned to our renovation on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, and be sure to visit our space to see the transition in action.

In addition to our updated space, Custer is in the process of shifting into a second generation of leadership. After 33 years of leading the company through its many successes, in 2014 Dave Custer began to transition the business to his three sons. Now, Scott Custer serves as Director of Finance and IT. Mark Custer and his wife, Kellie, opened Worklab by Custer in 2014, providing high quality work space and amenities to mobile workers in downtown Grand Rapids; meanwhile, Mark continues to serve as Custer's Director of Branding and Marketing. In early 2015, Todd Custer transitioned into the position of Chief Operations Officer, overseeing the daily operations of the company and working directly with organizational leadership to ensure continued excellence for Custer. Custer's strong succession planning and process has provided an example to other dealers and family businesses in our community.
As Custer continues to evolve, we also want to pause and reflect on how far we've come in the past several years. We're proud to share that in August of this year, Custer was named to the 2015 Inc. 5000 List of Fastest Growing Companies in the U.S., with 83% growth over a three-year period. We are encouraged by this prominent recognition, and we look forward to continued growth for Custer in the future.

We anticipate continued excellence and advancement of the interior design industry, and are proud to continually support the knowledge, advocacy, and outreach of the ASID community. For more information on Custer and our range of services, connect with us at www.custeronline.com. We would love to hear from you.
