We care about our kids' hearts. We want to protect and encourage their hearts. We want to teach our kids' hearts to value what is true, good, and beautiful. We want their hearts, their character to be engaged as much as we want their minds to be engaged. We hope for and work toward maturity together, because as cute as they are when they are little, we know that it won't last long. Our goal is that they wouldn't just age, but that they would mature into thoughtful, caring young men and women.

I think educator Max Van Manen captures  the strength of heart we want our children to develop: we hope and work toward "moral intuitiveness, self-critical openness, thoughtful maturity, interpretive intelligence, improvisational resoluteness, a passion for knowing and learning the mysteries of the world, the moral fibre to stand up for something, active hope in the face of prevailing crises, and, not the least, humor and vitality." We teach these character traits through great books and real life, in how we interact with each other during fun and conflict, and by what we prove that we value through our reactions. We won't teach them perfectly, and our children won't embrace them in every moment. But, each day we hope and work to strengthen our kids' hearts because through this we also build up their understanding, their practice, and their habits. What a privilege to work toward heart health together!

A couple of tips when submitting:

1. Bundle your box tops in bags of 50, write your child's name, their homeroom teacher and the number of box tops in a baggie or click here for a collection sheet.

2. Check for expiration dates, and throw away any expired Box Tops.

3. Turn in your Box Tops to your child's teacher or to the collection box located near the front office.

4. Please have your box tops turned in by Friday, October 20th.

The classroom with the most box tops submitted will win their choice of  a cupcake or a pizza party!!!

If you have any questions, please email Kelly McNeil, the box top coordinator. Earn even more cash for AVA by downloading the NEW BOX TOPS BONUS APP.
