Opportunity for AVA Community
An amazing opportunity for the AVA community

AVA is starting one of the greatest years in its school history. We are not a new school anymore, and we are not a young school anymore. We have a great staff and administrative team. Many of our students are now on their 5th year here at AVA. It is our time to excel in the classroom and make our mark in the community.

We have an unique opportunity to help out our kids and the community, and it is easy for all of us to participate. The town of Castle Rock is looking at developing one of five potential park sites around the city to become an amazing new neighborhood park. One of those sites under consideration is Meadows F18 Lot 2, which happens to be the vacant field right next to the school. It would be great if this location is chosen as the site that the town will develop. The town has created an online survey where parents can share their support for the site close to AVA to be developed into a brand-new park. All we need to do as parents is go online and fill out a 7-question survey. It takes less than 5 minutes. Please take the time to sit down with your kid or kids and do this survey and explain to them why you are doing it. Explain to them the benefits it could bring to the school and also to the surrounding community. At the end of the survey please make sure you put your email address in the survey so they can email you a copy of your answers. Please print off a copy of that email and send it with your kid or kids to school.

Please follow the below link to the survey. ( please be sure to select Meadows F18 Lot 2

AVA is offering a couple of incentives for parents and students. We will be giving each student an extra dress of choice day if 50% of our parents complete a survey. If 80% or more of our parents complete a survey we will offer a second dress of choice day. Finally, for parents, we are offering ½ hour of volunteer time if your family completes a survey.

Talk about a win-win scenario. The school and nearby community can benefit from a brand-new neighborhood park, the students can earn an extra dress of choice day (or two), and parents can receive volunteer hours. Please help us by taking a few moments of your time to fill out the survey.
Administrative Address
This Friday, September 8th, my husband and I will celebrate our 27th Wedding Anniversary. I am so grateful for the years we have spent together and how they have taught and grown me. Like most of life, the years are short, though some days are long. As I reflect over my married years, a few key lessons seem applicable to Aspen View Academy and the goals that we share with your family:

1. Commitment is foundational. - Aspen View Academy's Faculty and Staff are committed to pouring into your child's life daily. We won't do it perfectly, but we will model, teach, and encourage consistently, day upon day. Our first commitment is to your child and his/her well-being and growth. We take seriously your family's commitment to Aspen View, your consistency to participate in carpool, to log your volunteer hours, to build school community. Commitment means noticing and celebrating the good, being slow to anger, willing to listen to understand, and tenacious enough to work through difference. Commitment means showing up day after day after day.

2. Growth is an ongoing process. - Humans are multi-faceted beings. We may grow quickly in one facet and take extra time in another. It would probably be easy to consider ourselves having arrived if we only dealt with pleasant people, only experienced pleasant days, and were only set to pleasant tasks. The reality is that learning often comes through struggle, even failure. This is where commitment reminds us that growth is valuable even when it is costly. Let's give each other time.

3. Be prepared to be surprised. - How is it that thirty years into knowing my husband he can still surprise me? I don't know, but he does! Our faculty and staff and your children also surprise me. I love rhythms and habits, but novelty is fun! One thing I have come to count on is surprises. The unexpected reminds me that I don't know it all, I don't control it all, and both of those are really good things!

I hope that commitment, growth, and surprise continue to become part of the character of Aspen View Academy. Though 27 years sounds like a lifetime, I come new to my marriage every day, as I do to my job as Dean of Academics, and I look forward to showing up day after day, learning, growing, and being surprised.

Announcements

Driving Safety in the AVA School Zone
  • DO NOT use your phone while in carpool.  If you absolutely must be on your phone, we ask that you pull over and park.  This includes being on speaker phone.  We want all drivers to give 100% of their attention to driving and to the safety of our students.
  • Low Meadow is mainly a school zone, therefore, the speed limit during drop off and pick up is 20 MPH max.
  • The max speed limit in our parking lot is 10 MPH.
  • School zones are a NO U-TURN ZONE
  • ALWAYS use the designated cross walks.
This is an area where we cannot afford to give grace, so we will be stopping people if we see the policies being violated.

Parents if you are seeing violations please notify the Town of Castle Rock Police Department. The more parents reporting violations, the more likely we will have patrol cars present.
