The C orporate Fit Challenge amped up another northern  Michigan worksite!  Check out this testimonial!

"Thank you so much for working with our crew for the CFC!  It was very well received by our participants and I see us doing another one in the future.  Each of the coaches were very energetic and I could tell they love what they do.  We are so blesed to have the facility and the amazing team that both offer so much to our lives and community!  Thank you and also, thank everyone at BAC on behalf of Lafarge-Presque Isle Quarry."--

Power of 10 Winner

Congratulations to Cheyenne Perkins, this month's Power of 10 Winner! Cheyenne stayed consistent with her fitness and checked in at least 10 times at BAC or Bay Urban Fitness this month.

Since her freshman year of high school, Cheyenne came to BAC intermittently, but really never found the motivation to stick with it.  Her junior year, she found herself at her heaviest and was unhappy with her lifestyle.  A switch flipped and she started working out consistently and now enjoys group exercise classes like Lift & Shred, Fat Blasting and Core Power.  Along with workouts, Cheyenne began to eat healthier.  In the last 6 months she has lost nearly 20 pounds.  She has never been happier.  She's even planning on jumping in on the 10 Day Outdoor Adventure Boot Camp in July!

Want to be our next Power of 10 Winner?  Check in at least 10 times at BAC and/or Bay Urban Fitness this month to be eligible!

Shakeology of the Month
We have a great featured recipe for a warm summer month: Key Lime Shakeology!

Why Shakeology?
We all struggle with food prep and getting all the nutrients we need in life every day. Shakeology solves both of those problems.  It literally fills the gaps in our daily nutrition. We still advocate eating clean, colorful, whole foods for your daily meals. Shakeology is like a multiivataim in a meal, adding to your day.

It is quick, convenient and filled with vitamins, minerals, superfoods, probiotics, prebiotics, digestive enzymes, amino acids, antioxidants and protein. It is not a diet shake or a quick fix. It is whole food nutrition.

Need Shakeology at home for YOUR family? FREE shaker cup with purchase!

HEALTHY EATS!

Caprese Salad on Spring Greens with Grilled Herb de Provence Chicken
Take advantage of the summer bounty of basil, juicy tomatoes and perfectly fresh baby lettuces by combining the flavors in a twist on the classic caprese salad. The traditional ingredients pair with greens and herby grilled chicken to make a weeknight summer salad fit for a meal. This comes together quickly and best of all you can make it happen, mostly, out of doors. Enjoy!

Ingredients:
1 pint cherry tomatoes, very ripe
8 oz. container of Pearl size fresh mozzarella (packaged in brine)
1 cup fresh basil, torn into smaller pieces
6 cups spring greens of all variety
1 pound boneless, skinless chicken (about ½ chicken breast)
Your favorite balsamic vinegar to taste
Your favorite extra virgin olive oil (1 TBSP per salad)
Marinade for Chicken
2 TBSP Herb de Provence
1 TBSP dried parsley (optional)
¼ tsp. salt
½ tsp. black pepper
¼ cup olive oil
2 TBSP apple cider vinegar
2 TBSP water

Method:
1 hour or more (up to 12) combine all the ingredients listed under the marinade into a bowl or zipper bag. Mix well and then add the chicken. Return marinating chicken to the fridge.
Grill the chicken until well done and allow it to rest before slicing for the salad. While the chicken is grilling, prepare two large salad bowls. Layer the greens (three cups per bowl), basil, tomatoes, mozzarella and finish with a dusting of vinegar and 1 TBSP olive oil each salad. Top with grilled chicken and eat! Serves two.

Growing Up In Fitness

I came across this picture of my daughter Jade (right) along with her friend Mackenzie Linton and it made me smile. This was more than six years ago, selling hot chocolate in front of our house. Jade is proudly sporting her BAC sweatshirt. From what I recall, they each got to keep a couple of dollars and they donated the rest of their modest sales to Bay Athletic Club's Girls on the Run sponsorship.

Over the years, Jade watched me work long days, with my awesome team, to run our community health club. She saw that I believed in creating a fitness crusade and it was worth the sweat and tears! Even back then, she was proud of it and a part of it -- from cleaning equipment to marching in holiday parades.

Mackenzie watched her mom Andrea, a very busy local teacher, make her health a priority by working out nearly everyday.  It's been a big part of Andrea's journey in fighting breast cancer over the years, often attending a group ex class right after undergoing a treatment. She has walked the walk, rain or shine in her life, and Mackenzie has seen it.

These days, Jade and Mackenzie aren't just bystanders at the club. They are a part of it!
Mackenzie is now an official BAC employee, working in the Jungle Gym day care (where she used to hang out herself). Jade often helps o ut at the front desk, greeting members and blending shakes. They also love exercising in the Women's Fit Retreat together, our private circuit room. They face off in "plank wars" to motivate each other.  Mackenzie loves attending gr oup fitness classes, with Fat Blasting and Core Power as her favorites.

In addition, Jade and Mackenzie both start volleyball conditioning at Bay Urban this week as part of our high school program with Coach Stacey McEwen and BAC trainers Rick Houchin and Lindsey Bartz. Go Wildcats! Jade and Mackenzie are now in the club, using it, becoming better athletes and stronger, more responsible young women in life!

As a adults, we have the power to be role models to our kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews, students, etc. We show them by our own commitment that fitness matters.

Fitness isn't seasonal, it isn't to fight the scale, it isn't a punishment.
It is a gift, a blessing and a way of life. Pass it on.

Sincerely, Trina Gray, Owner, Bay Athletic Club

She has given so much to others. Her impact is huge and lasts.  We are sad to see her go, but grateful for all that she has contributed over the years. She is off to Europe. Happy trails, friend.
