Growing girls - growing food
OUR GROWTH PLAN IS IN FULL BLOOM
Girls Inc. of Memphis is growing in so many ways! We recently embarked on a three-year plan that is designed to grow our organization across all of our program areas.

One example of new efforts in the plan is our Youth Farm. Located on 9.5 acres in Frayser, the Girls Inc. Youth Farm employs high school girls as youth farmers, led by farm managers Miles Tamboli and Karen Strachan.

At the Youth Farm, we give teen girls the tools to be strong, smart and bold by employing them in the meaningful work of growing food. Our all-girl farm crew tends the crops, manages the business, engages with the community and practices ecosystem management using 100% organic methods. Our goals are many: to feed the community, to provide an entrepreneurial experience, to promote social justice and to re-engage with the natural world.

"The Youth Farm is a great example of the Girls Inc. Experience in action," said Girls Inc. president and CEO Lisa Moore. "Providing a space with purposeful work and community engagement led by caring adults equips girls for healthy living, academic success and effective life skills for a successful adulthood."

Just like the summer tomatoes, the farm itself is generating lots of excitement. Check out the latest news below!

Meeting the first lady
OF TENNESSEE, THAT IS
This summer, the Girls Inc. LDT Center has partnered with the Memphis Police Department as a
part of the MPD's community engagement. Girls participated in a  variety of sessions and programs led by officers, including CSI Investigation, Cyber Safety and more.

On June 26,  participants were invited to the Ed Rice Community Center  where Tennessee first lady Crissy Haslam signed books for youth that the MPD have worked with throughout the year. Mrs. Haslam  also spoke about her Read20 Book Club, which encourages families to read with their children for 20 minutes every day. Thank you, Mrs. Haslam, for inspiring our girls!
Wow - that went fast!
