Dear Students, Parents, Teachers & Friends of Education,

Athletic Director Of The Year

The faculty, staff, and students of Apalachee High School are all very proud and excited that assistant principal Ralph Neeley was named as Region 8-AAAAAA Athletic Director of the year. There is no one who could be more dedicated in his profession. This dedication is evident in the relationships he has cultivated with coaches, parents, and most importantly students. While he is always striving to improve athletic facilities, ensure compliance with the GA High School Association and communication with all his coaches and peers, his greatest contribution is the creation and maintenance of meaningful relationships with the student athletes. Mr. Neeley always has a joke, a supportive comment, or if necessary a gentle push in the right direction. According to Coach Alex Holmes, "Mr. Neeley's biggest attribute has always been his ability to manage several roles throughout each school day and he is definitely deserving of this honor."

Last year, Winder-Barrow High School assistant principal and athletic director Rob McFerrin was named the 2016 Region 8-AAAAA Athletic Director of the Year.

Happy Anniversary

On January 25th the Barrow Book Partnership (BBP) celebrated their first anniversary of service to the Barrow County community. Over the course of the last year, the BBP has distributed nearly 6,000 free, age-appropriate books to local children and their families, and has registered over 300 individuals for library cards.

The BBP is a unique, dual approach community partnership formed to promote and encourage early literacy in Barrow County's children from newborn to age five. The group is comprised of the following community partners: the Barrow County School System, Piedmont Regional Library System including Auburn, Statham, and Winder libraries, Barrow County Health Department, Barrow Family Connection, Adult Literacy Barrow, Lanier Tech, The Winder Clothes Closet-Thrift Store's Book Room, and the Barrow Community Foundation Inc.

Peggy Kilgroe, Business Development Liaison of Peach State Federal Credit Union (PSFCU) stopped by this week to present a $1000.00 check to sponsor a new book for each of the 1000 Kindergarten registrants we're expecting this spring. Through the combined efforts of Peach State Federal Credit Union, the Barrow Community Foundation Inc., the Barrow Book Partnership, and the three Barrow public libraries our "Read to Succeed" will have new features this year. Each child will receive a new book to take home courtesy of PSFCU.
How Big Is A Polar Bear?

County Line Elementary first grade Scope students can tell you! They have been learning all about these amazing arctic animals this week. Fun fact: A polar bears hind paw can be 12x18 inches! Students made life size paws, then measured and compared their own foot with the polar bear's foot. Click here to see their discoveries.
