Greetings Bison,
I hope this message finds you in great health and excellent spirits! The event many of you have been waiting for is finally here: BISON ON THE LAKE! (A Press Release is enclosed.) The Club's largest scholarship fundraiser and alumni awards ceremony, known to many as the Charter Day Gala, has been rebranded to more closely align with the goals and vision of the University. BISON ON THE LAKE is the official sesquicentennial celebration of the Atlanta Club and promises to be a special treat. Going forward, this event will be held at the Ritz-Carlton Reynolds, Lake Oconee in late summer and will replace the March Charter Day Celebration for Atlanta.
Additionally, we have had several extremely successful and exciting quarters! Here are a few highlights:

Club membership has increased vs. same time last year

Updated bylaws were approved by the HUAA Executive Committee

Recruitment Committee organized and staffed over 20+ college fairs

Columbus, GA alumni organized as a Committee of the Atlanta Club

Annual Holiday Party Extravaganza was one of the most successful and well attended events in recent years - over 250 alum attended

Hosted Alumni Trustee Stefanie Brown James for Cigars and Conversation

Yearly spring break Bus Trip to the Mecca was sold out within a month of advertising

Mentoring Committee held its inaugural workshop with high school juniors and seniors
Please plan to attend the State of the Club General Body Meeting on June 17 for a full recap of this year's milestones and accomplishments. As it relates to Membership, we still have lots of ground to cover. There are over 3,900 Howard alum in the greater Atlanta metro - an area that encompasses a 60-mile radius of the downtown core - yet we're still are hovering around the 350 paid member mark, This is less than 10% of the total population. If you're not currently a member, kindly JOIN OR RENEW today. Your local dues support our operating fund and provides working capital for Club events throughout the year. Club dues are only $75, which is among the lowest in the nation for schools of Howard's size and stature
. Howard University is hallowed grounds. It's a magical place where the ancestors whisper to your soul, "Straighten your back and walk tall. We've paid for your crown." Let us never lose sight of the thread that weaves us into this vibrant tapestry, Veritas et Utilitas - Truth and Service. Every committee from Columbus, events, fundraising, membership, recruiting, scholarship to young alumni has been tirelessly working on behalf of our alma mater. For our current and prospective members, I want to reassure you that the intention of this Board is to grow the Atlanta Club without limits.

The Howard University Alumni Club of Atlanta Announces Plans to Celebrate the U
niversity's
150th Anniversary
(Atlanta, GA - March 30, 2017) Bison on the Lake, the Howard University Alumni Club of Atlanta's (HUACA) capstone sesquicentennial event, will be held August 4 - 5 at the Ritz-Carlton Reynolds, Lake Oconee, a luxury property located in Greensboro, Georgia. In the tradition of Charter Day, the weekend's events will raise funds for scholarships with an added bonus of highlighting 150 years of Howard University.
Open to alumni, family and friends, Bison on the Lake will include a white party; golf outing; a dinner recognizing outstanding alumni; boat rides; and other activities offered by the resort. Attendees are encouraged to visit the Howard Room, a space dedicated to 150 years of the university's history and to purchase the university's signature wine, which will be released for the event.
