The Future of ITIL

A thought provoking and informative piece written by Kaimar Karu, Head if ITSM - AXELOS on June 5th 2014

Throughout the 25 years of its existence, ITIL has supported IT organizations in providing business value for their customers in the form of well-designed and supported services. ITIL has become the most widely used and most successful ITSM (IT Service Management) framework in the world, with true global reach. Over this time, ITIL has seen several major updates (the latest being in 2011) to make sure the recent advancements in technology and the latest changes in overall business requirements are taken into account. The recent surveys have shown that the core best practice principles ITIL follows - supporting business objectives, enabling business change, optimizing customer experience and continual improvement - have remained relevant and helpful in the modern age of Cloud, Agile and BYOD. What does the future hold for ITIL though?

Don't you feel Mobility is all around us, with us, and rapidly making inroads into the enterprises?

Consumerization of IT, flexible work policies, shifts in generational mix, and various other factors are driving this trend. Based on a survey, 67% of CIOs and IT professionals believe that mobility will impact the businesses same or more as what Internet did in the 1990s.

However, many enterprises and their IT teams are not prepared for this disruptive change, and their response to this change is mostly reactive.

In this session, Rashid will lead an interactive discussion with the participants on the following topics:
  • What are the key trends in the Enterprise Mobility?
  • What are the main challenges and opportunities caused by Enterprise Mobility for the IT?
  • How can IT professionals prepare themselves for this change and help their businesses?

The importance of cyber security to
ITSM professionals

Although the Internet has revolutionised business, organisations are exposing themselves to cyber security risks every day by their online presence. In the event of a cyber attack, inadequate IT security could mean your business losing its ability to function altogether.

An effective information security strategy that manages cyber risks is therefore vital to IT service managers.

AXELOS, the owner of ITIL, has already recognised the need to develop a new cyber security portfolio. In a press release earlier this year, AXELOS CEO Peter Hepworth said, "The cyber risks are clear and there are more policies and standards being published - but organisations are still searching for the right, pragmatic way to make these part of day-to-day business operations."

Cyber Risks for Business Professionals: A Management Guide

Protect your IT service management (ITSM) system from cyber attack by developing suitable approaches to manage them. Cyber Risks for Business Professionals: A Management Guide will help you to understand the nature of online risks and develop an approach to lessen the risk of a cyber attack.
