Back to school!

It's that time of year again, and that means two things:

1. Low band season is coming!

2. Contest season is starting!

Eugene Lee KD2FJB
QST!
The RemoteHamRadio Youth Program

We are very excited to announce a new program to give back to the amateur radio community. We understand the significance that youth have on this great hobby. We believe leveraging technology and providing access to quality stations will promote activity in young hams.

We are pleased to introduce to you our first recipient, Eugene Lee KD2FJB. Eugene will be starting his freshman year at MIT this fall. He is an ARRL member with his General class license, and will be upgrading to Extra next week. Eugene is looking forward to chasing DX, contesting, and exploring all aspects of what amateur radio has to offer.

"
My housing agreement does not allow for antenna structures to be installed, and I don't think a magloop will be a suitable alternative in our room. This is quite similar to those with HOA restrictions, and is probably why others use RHR as well."

Eugene will not only be able to hone his skills on some of the best stations in the world. He will also have an "Elmer" influence from a number of the biggest and best DXers/contesters who are on RHR and eager to help.

The RHR Youth Program is accepting applicants who meet the following criteria:
  1. 25 years or younger
  2. Hold a general class or higher license
  3. Members of the ARRL
  4. Can demonstrate why RHR will be a "good fit" for them
  5. Has interest in DXing/Contesting
RemoteHamRadio's Youth program is a one-year program that includes 300 minutes per month and is completely free to the recipient. RHR will announce a new recipient typically every month. If you are interested in supporting this program you can contact us for details.

DXAC and PSC News

The meeting notes from the July DXAC meeting has been submitted to the P&SC are published.

Unfortunately, the proposed changes to the DXCC rules section I.9 will have a very large negative impact. This affects not only the ARRL awards program, but also aspiring new hams, HOA-restricted amateurs, and amateurs who have health disabilities.

Don't like what you read? Contact the DXAC members and let them know your thoughts.
W7/Portland:
Site #11!

RHR is always striving to expand its capacity on the west coast, and now W7/Portland helps fill that demand. This station consists of a 150' rotating tower on a mountaintop near Portland, Oregon, with the following antennas:
  • 10m - 6/6 stack
  • 15m - 6/6 stack
  • 20m - 5/5 stack
  • 40m - 3 element monobander
  • 80m - Rotatable dipole @150'
  • 160m - Vertical
  • 6m, 12 and 30m - 2 element SteppIR

SNEAK PEAK:
PremiumDX site #12 is on its way - a mega-site on the Pacific Ocean!
Seven Towers

You read that right: this station has seven big towers overlooking the Pacific Ocean. This site is very quiet and has amazing drop-offs over the ocean as well as every other direction.

Advanced Antenna Switching System

What do we love about this site? There are no rotors! Each tower is fixed in a different direction. RHR has the ability to switch 38 independent antennas in all directions, instantaneously. We think operators are going to love this site.

PremiumDX site #13 is in the works - a huge station on salt water!

  • 40m - 2 Element F12 Magnum 240
  • 40m - Full Size 4 Square
  • 80m - Full Size 4 Square

This well-equipped station beams directly over the the Bay Of Fundy - just about as close to Europe as you can get in the U.S.

What are the differences between PremiumDX vs WebDX?

PremiumDX is a 1-year subscription service which includes multiple World Class Stations on both coasts. It also includes customer support. The Premium sites include RF power up to 1.5KW. With the Premium service you have access to all the RHR stations, both PremiumDX and WebDX. You can access these sites using our web browser technology or an Elecraft K3/0/10/100-Mini.

WebDX is for the budget-conscience ham. This service has a very modest one-time $99 sign-up fee, then simply "pay as you go" after that. These sites are modest to very-well equipped stations with RF power up to 500W. At the current time we have five sites on WebDX and many more on the way! Operate today with this revolutionary technology. All you need is a PC or laptop using the browser Google Chrome. Sites start as little as $0.15 cents a minute. You can also operate WebDX stations using an Elecraft K3/0/10/100-Mini.

RemoteHamRadio.com is a service that was developed because the community asked for it. We deliver the best operating experience in the world as well as maintaining, upgrading, and supporting hundreds of towers and antennas all over the world. We do the climbing and investing so you don't have too.

Our philosophy at RemoteHamRadio is very simple: we want every amateur to have an opportunity to get on the air and experience operating quality stations. More importantly, we drive to promote on-air activity by removing any personal, environmental or financial burdens amateurs may have.

Two awesome choices to get on RHR!

You now have two options to operate on RemoteHamRadio. Use the browser-based WebDX technology if you need the convenience of portability from the airport or the office to quickly get on and work that new one.

For those who want a more "authentic" radio experience, you can connect with a K3/0/10/100-Mini!

The K3/0-Mini consists of a K3 front panel only, so it's highly portable. The K3/0-Mini is perfect for home and travel use due to its small size. It fully duplicates all K3 controls, displays and menus for a realistic remote K3 experience. To learn more visit Elecraft.

WRTC-2014 Ray and Lee operating W1I

First off, we want to thank the WRTC committee for doing an UNBELIEVABLE job organizing the event. They put in an incredible amount of effort to overcome both organizational and technical challenges. We had NO FAILURES, which is a true testament of the talent they have in the hobby. We had a lifelong memorable experience that we will always cherish. It was a pure honor and pleasure to operate with the best in the world! Thank You!

Be sure to read/listen to the great program National Public Radio covered on the event.
