This summer has been an active month with new communications from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).  They have already issued registration instructions for lead agencies for the 2014 funding cycle.  They also continue to issue guidance and policies of interest.

Of special note, the OneCPD Technical Assistance program is being renamed the Community Compass Technical Assistance  program. And, OneCPD Resource Exchange website will now become the HUD Exchange. HUD indicates that this new HUD Exchange will be expanded to provide resources, and assistance across all HUD programs.  It is our understanding that all existing URLs or links that you have saved for the website will still work.  For any technical questions or feedback to share, the HUD Exchange site is made available here.  If you would like to join their mailing list to receive the latest in news and information, please click on Mailing List

Good News!  Harvest House to Open North County Portal for Homeless Families
Please read latest excerpt on progress from their July 2014 Newsletter:

"As part of the community-wide effort to address the homelessness crisis in Sarasota, Harvest House is expecting to open the North County shelter for homeless families by early fall!

This shelter, located on Mango Avenue just south of Dr. Martin Luther King Way, will have open doors and on-call staff to welcome families into the shelter 24/7, year round. Safety and security, as well as basic needs like food and clothing, will be the primary concern upon a family's arrival. In addition, Harvest House will be working with other local agencies to ensure children do not miss school.

The shelter will serve as the first point of contact a homeless family will have with human services in our community. Families will work with shelter staff and a Master Case Manager to locate safe housing and be connected with other resources that will help them in their path to a more stable life."

Of Special note, Catholic Charities Diocese of Venice has agreed to be a similar portal for homeless families in South Sarasota County.  Both organizations should be commended for these positive community efforts!
