We are seeking folks to join the DGT Event Committee, which plans, organizes, coordinates and promotes our annual fundraising event in April. Committee tasks may include: 

  • Soliciting silent and/or live auction items
  • Soliciting individual and corporate sponsors for the event
  • Planning for food, beverage, and entertainment
  • Recruiting and coordinating event volunteers
  • Event set-up, production and clean-up
  • Event promotion and publicity

We invite anyone to apply who has a passion for our mission and who enjoys having fun working for a great cause with other like-minded individuals. Experience with event planning, recruiting event sponsors, promotions and marketing, or social media is helpful, but not required.  

 

Ages: Adults, 21 and over

 

Time Commitment: 5-10 hours per month

Harvest Festival  

Open Arms of Minnesota

 

Date/Time: Saturday, August 22, 10:30am - 1pm

 

Location: The farm is located at 668 Victoria St. S. St. Paul, between 7th St. S. and Scheffer Ave  

 

Join Open Arms for a family-friendly harvest festival!  Enjoy food, fun activities, and mini-farm volunteer tasks. This event is free. 

 

Ages: Families of all ages are welcome!

Lunch Making Brigade for the homeless!

Our Emergency Shelter is home to 40 adults every night of the year, but we are closed during the day. You can help make sure that residents stay fed and healthy even while they're away from the shelter with this really easy and flexible opportunity of making simple meat and cheese sandwiches! Your family is welcome to either make full lunches including snacks in a brown lunch bag, just the sandwiches, or just the snacks. Lunches can be made at your own location and dropped off at our shelter, or we can schedule a time to make lunches at our shelter!   

 

Ages: All ages are welcome to volunteer

Volunteer Grocery Shopper  

IOCP

 

Date/Time: Saturday, August 8 or 22, 11am - 1pm

 

Location: IOCP Food Shelf, 1605 County Road 101 N, Plymouth. Please enter through Resale 101

 

Volunteer Grocery Shoppers will use request lists to shop for low-income seniors who are unable to come to the IOCP food shelf on their own because of limited mobility or access to transportation. After shopping for the client's food items, volunteers will weigh the items to record what is leaving the food shelf. It is important volunteers pay close attention to the person's request list since many of our clients have strict dietary restrictions and/or they don't want to waste food that isn't useful to them.   

 

Ages: Volunteers ages 5-13 must sign up to work with an adult

 

Time Commitment: Approximately two hours. Volunteers can sign up once or make an ongoing commitment. No prior training or experience is required.

High Five for Supplies  

Simon Says Give

 

Date/Time: Saturday, August 8 or Sunday, August 9, Shifts are two-hours and are scheduled between 9am and 5pm

 

Location: St. Thomas Academy, 9494 Mendota Heights Rd, Mendota Heights  

 

Simon Says Give is a nonprofit founded by Mandi Simon. At age seven, Mandi knew she wanted to make a difference in the lives of others. Most importantly, the lives of other kids! With the last name Simon, it was pretty easy to come up with "Simon Says Give." From that day forward, Simon Says Give was born, and has blossomed into a value oriented charity foundation, grown almost entirely by kids. Help sort and pack backpacks. The 2015 High Five for Supplies Goal is to support another 10,000 kids during their Backpacks and School Supplies drive! In honor of Mandi's August birthday, Simon Says Give celebrates her by providing as many kids as possible with the tools they need to go back-to-school with school readiness!

Minneapolis Farmers Market Produce Rescue    

The Food Group

 

Date/Time: Sundays, 12-2:30pm, now through October 25

 

Location: Minneapolis Farmer's Market  

 

The Food Group, formerly Emergency Foodshelf Network, is partnering with Hunger Solutions Minnesota to collect surplus produce from farmers, vendors and customers at the Minneapolis Farmers Market to distribute to food shelves and meal programs in the Twin Cities metro area. Produce Rescue Team Volunteers distribute boxes and flyers to market vendors and collect boxes of surplus produce at the close of the Minneapolis Farmer's Market. All rescued produce will be donated to local food shelves and meal programs. In previous years, Produce Rescuers have collected thousands of pounds of high quality produce each week for our neighbors in need.  

 

Ages: Volunteers of all ages are welcome. Multilingual skills are a great plus!

Thrift Store Helpers  

Arc's Value Village Thrift Stores

 

Date/Time: Shifts are available days, evenings & weekends

 

Location: Arc's Value Village has locations in Bloomington, Brooklyn Center, New Hope, Richfield & St. Paul  

 

Volunteers help unpack, sort, tag/sticker donations, hang & tag clothing, and stock the sales floor. Proceeds support The Arc's programs and services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.

 

Ages: Volunteers must be at least 8. Youth between the ages of 8-14 should be accompanied by an adult at a ratio of 1 adult per 6 youth

 

Time Commitment: Volunteer shifts are two-three hours. You can volunteer one-time or on an ongoing basis

Looking for ways to introduce your kids to helping others? This summer we're hosting family volunteering opportunities, where you can brighten our clients' days by decorating the brown bags we use to deliver food to our clients. Enjoy milk, cookies and coffee while working on a creative activity together!  

 

Ages: Families and children of all ages welcome.   

 

Time Commitment: Up to three hours. Feel free to arrive and depart when needed during the shift.

RE/MAX Results Breast Cancer Ride

The 8th Annual RE/MAX Results Breast Cancer Ride is a one-day bicycle ride, with multiple route options, that raises money and awareness for local breast cancer service organizations. This marks the eighth year for the Breast Cancer Ride where hundreds of cyclists and volunteers will come together to do something incredible. Check the volunteer page for available opportunities.  

Ages: Families are welcomed and encouraged to volunteer together but parents are asked to select volunteer opportunities that are age appropriate.

Back to School supply drives & school supply distribution  

Help provide school supplies for children

 

Add a "giving" aspect to your back-to-school ritual! Many local organizations help provide school supplies for children who would otherwise be unable to start school with the school supplies they need. The programs listed below need help with either collecting school supplies or distributing supplies to children. If a program close to you isn't listed below you can also contact your local school district or food shelf to see how you can help in your area.

This is a great summer activity that will challenge your kids to think critically and take action about causes that matter to them. Take time as a family to learn about and support a cause that you and your children care about through online petitions. You can start a petition or sign a existing petition at Change.org. This way you can participate in initiatives that are up and running, or start a petition for a cause that's meaningful to you. It's a kindness campaign! It's a fundraiser! It's a fashion statement! Doing Good Together™ is holding a limited-time fundraising sale of these fun 2-sided "Share kindness" T-shirts.
