  CHAMBER HAPPENINGS!
Part-Time Job Fair for Local Area Businesses
The Greater Valley Area Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Chambers County Development Authority and the Circle of Care Center for Families is hosting a PART-TIME JOB FAIR for high school students throughout the Greater Valley Area.

We are seeking businesses interested in hiring part-time employees, ages 16 and older, willing to meet the needs of their busy school schedules who are interested in getting work experience.

The Chamber and CCDA have partnered up with the schools throughout the Greater Valley Area to have the students bused to one location. This will allow the businesses the opportunity to have direct contact with the candidates based on a rotation throughout the event. The job fair will be an all day event with a break for our businesses during lunch hours. A tentative schedule is below:

8:30 - 10:00 am ET - Valley High School and Acts Academy
10:15 - 11:45 am ET - Lanett High School and Springwood School
2:30 - 4:00 pm ET - LaFayette H.S., Chambers Academy, and Temple Christian

The Circle of Care Center for Families staff will be on site to assist students in completing job applications.

The PART-TIME JOB FAIR is a great way to see over 500+ students interested in employment throughout the Greater Valley Area.

AUGUST 11TH AND 12TH

The 1st Annual Lanett City Film Festival seeks to provide an exciting creative platform for filmmakers to have their work screened and judged. Our vision is to encourage filmmakers, both professional and beginning, along the filmmaking process and catapult them into their full potential.

The screenings will be held in the beautiful and historic town of Lanett, Alabama - just 20 minutes NE of Auburn University. New Horizon Community Theatre will serve as the main screening venue. Other venues also include Lanett City Hall, Lanett Senior Citizens Center, and Refuge Point Church in West Point, Georgia.

The festival will screen shorts and features, including narratives, documentaries, and more… in both showcase and competition settings. There will be panel discussions on issues in contemporary filmmaking as well as opportunities for filmmakers to interact with the audience at several social events. Some of the other fun extras offered to festival-goers include sidewalk boutiques and food trucks throughout downtown Lanett.

Back 2 School Bash - LaFayette
Powell Chapel United Methodist Church’s Youth Department has founded PHYRE (People Helping Youth Reach Excellence). PHYRE (pronounced “fire”) is an organized group/ministry whose primary focus is to help impact and enrich the lives of our youth.  Last year, in early August, we held our fourth annual “Back to School Bash” which was a county-wide event. What a success!  PHYRE, in partnership with Chambers County School District, was able to provide fun, food, games, inspirational speakers, live music and, most importantly over 500 backpacks for  K-12 students filled with school supplies for our local youth. This year the “Back to School Bash” will be held on August 12, 2017 and will include:
  • Free school supplies for students of all ages
  • Free Food/Games
  • Motivational speakers and live musical entertainment
  • Spirit Stick Competition and much more…
We would appreciate your support and participation in making this event even more of a success this year and reaching more of Chambers County’s youth (our future).  Please consider becoming a sponsor for this event. Sponsorship Form below.

The VHS Ram Touchdown Club Presents....
Letter from Point
Dear valued community partner, As the summer comes to a close, we at Point University are preparing to welcome another record-breaking freshman class on campus! Freshman orientation begins on August 21, and our first day of class is August 23. Many community partners, organizations and churches have asked for different ways they can be involved at Point this semester, so I have listed some opportunities below.

Come to us-

Local Business/Internship Expo – Wednesday August 23, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Advertise your business, products or services to our 800 students at our West Point campus. Looking for college student employees or promoting an internship opportunity? Collect resumes and interview on the spot. Build brand awareness by giving away coupons or prizes.

We’ll come to you -

Host a Student Life event at your location. Student Life is always searching

for places to host student activities, and off-campus events are a great way to expose students to the community!

Repeat business - Students have money loaded on their ID cards, ready to spend! Accept Skyhawk bucks (student ID card) at your location.

Incentivize performance - Partner with the S.O.A.R. program to reward athletes for their performance on and off the field. They’ll play and study harder if they are rewarded with free food, prizes or services from your business!

Root for the home team - Homecoming week is October 16 – 21. Local businesses are  encouraged to decorate their storefronts to welcome Skyhawks from across the country! Participation is free, and free football tickets are available for the best decorated business.

Invest - The Skyhawk Club is Point’s Athletic Booster Club. Proceeds provide our athletes with resources and opportunities to excel. Benefits and incentives are available at different levels of participation.

Serve - Point has contributed over 40,000 hours of community service since moving to West  Point. In the spring we will have our annual Impact Day, and we would love for you to join us in serving this great community!

Play - Join us for the 6th Annual Point Golf Classic on May 4, 2018. We’re searching for our top  sponsors now! If you or your organization have interest in participating in any of the above opportunities, please contact me so I can help coordinate your participation. If you have other ideas or opportunities you would like to share, I would love to hear those as well. We consider ourselves blessed to be an active part of this vibrant community. Our success continues to be measured by how well we can partner with our local community. I’d love to hear from you how we can continue to improve.

Sincerely,
