Please join us for our next professional networking event on Thursday, August 20th, 6-8 pm, at the American Public Power Association (APPA) in Arlington, Virginia (Crystal City, accessible by Metro) on "Building a Responsive Energy Infrastructure for the Future."  We will be looking at extreme weather events and measures to improve the resiliency of the electric grid.

Severe weather is the number one cause of power outages in the United States and costs the economy billions of dollars annually.  Moreover, the aging nature of the grid - much of which was constructed over a period of more than one hundred years - has made Americans more susceptible to outages caused by severe weather. (See "Economic Benefits of Increasing Electric Grid Resilience to Weather Outages," Executive Office of the President, August 2013).

Come hear our panel's perspective on developments to provide advanced notice of weather threats, improved intelligence on identifying power outages, and efforts underway by American's public utility sector to enhance the overall resiliency of the electric utility grid, including the use of distributed resources.  We will also look at workforce challenges and career opportunities in the public power sector.

Our event sponsors include the American Public Power Association and Business Radar.

Christopher (Chris) Strong will join us as one of our panelists.  Chris is the Warning Coordination Meteorologist with the National Weather Service's Baltimore/Washington Forecast Office. His office issues the watches, warnings, and advisories for various weather threats for the Mid Atlantic - everything from Tornado Warnings to Winter Storm Watches & Warnings.

Pizza and beer (and non-alcoholic beverages) will be provided.  Register now to take advantage of early bird pricing.
