Trinity Tidbits-Week of Pentecost 10

TOTH logo
By now, you will have read in Tidings that Trinity on the Hill will be entering a season of discernment in the Fall.
Now, discernment means different things to different people.  For us, discernment is rooted in a process of listening to God and listening to each other.  What kind of parish is God calling us to be? What kind of family of Christian brothers and sisters is God calling us to be? What are the strengths that God is calling us to live into, to lift up, to celebrate? Where are the growing edges God is calling us to honestly face, that we might be more faithfully the kind of church family God desires us to be?
These are some of the questions we will be asking. Perhaps take some time in prayer and ask these questions yourself.  You could keep a journal of your answers and share them once we begin this process in earnest.
   Peace,
   Chris
Back to School Sunday is Aug. 20 at TOTH
Greetings TOTH family from your friendly Vestry! On Sunday, August 20, we will be providing ice cream sundaes and floats during the annual Back To School Cookout. All of the treats will be provided, so we invite you all to come indulge your sweet tooth and meet your Vestry members.    There will be a scavenger hunt for the kiddos and a photo booth for all to capture some silly memories with your church family. There will be some props for the photo booth, but if your little person would like a picture with their favorite stuffie, please have them bring it along too. The Vestry looks forward to seeing you all on Sunday, August 20!
Please bring side dishes and salads to share that will augment the hamburgers and hot dogs Keith will be grilling!
Special Parish-wide Event on September 23...
It's my joy to be able to share with you a ministry I am passionate about.  Since 2007, Karen and I have been supporters of The Kefa Project and the amazing work they do with children in Rwanda. This ministry works with some of the most disposed and vulnerable children in Rwanda, often taking them from a life on the streets and giving them a safe space to grow and develop into the beautiful people God has formed them to be.  Through innovative means like sports camps, film internships, and a live-in soccer academy that has produced nationally ranked athletes, these children come to know the love of God and the potential dwelling deep within them.  Join us on Saturday, September 23 for a dinner with the founder, Brian Beckman.  Tickets are available for purchase in the Parish Office.

PILGRIMAGE TO ENGLAND WITH TOTH -- JULY 2018
Singers and those who love music are invited to join an Anglican Heritage Pilgrimage to England, July 12-23, 2018.
After exploring London, Windsor Castle and Canterbury Cathedral, we will use Portsmouth Cathedral as a home base; our gift is to offer the Cathedral a TOTH "Pilgrim Choir" to sing several Evensong services and a Sunday principal mass.
Between rehearsals (and while singers are rehearsing), a luxury coach will take the group many places in the region including Oxford, Bath, Brighton, Salisbury, Stonehenge, HMS Victory and the Mary Rose!
If you think you might be interested, please contact John Singleton or Judy Crocker very soon. The church has already paid a deposit to the tour company!
The cost, including airfare, accommodations and two meals a day, will be something less than $5,000 per person (depending on single/double occupancy) for airfare, transport, accommodations, entry fees, two meals a day, etc. Not included is your pocket money, travel insurance, and a handful of meals on your own.

Scholarship funds will be needed to help our youngest singers participate, so if you can't go, please consider contributing to the TOTH Youth Choir Scholarship Fund.
Thanks to all who have committed to the tour or donated already!

CALL FOR AUCTION DONATIONS
Trinity Builders (which includes some House of Hope ladies) will have their popular Tea and Fashion Show on Saturday, August 26. They truly appreciate all the support from congregation members in the past and hope for another successful event this year!
A few more quality donations for the Silent Auction would be appreciated: bottles of wine, a quilt rack (at least to display the quilts we have received), certificates for services, and the like. High end items preferred!
Please contact the office with any questions and offers of help or donations. Deadline for donations will be August 20 (less than 2 weeks away!)

Feast of the Transfiguration   August 6
O  God, who on the holy mount revealed to chosen witnesses your well-beloved Son, wonderfully transfigured, in raiment white and glistening: Mercifully grant that we, being delivered from the disquietude of this world, may by faith behold the King in his beauty; who with you, O Father, and you, O Holy Spirit, lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Updates and Status of the Search Process for our next bishop.
The Bishop Search Committee met on July 28 and reviewed a draft of the Diocesan Profile, which is scheduled to be put on line by Sept. 1; at that time nominations will be open. Some suggestions were proffered to the profile authors and accepted but on the whole the full committee was quite satisfied with the draft.
Responses to questions about the diocese for the Office for Transitional Ministry, a part of the process required by the national church, also were previewed. Suggestions for it were proffered and accepted.
The committee next meets on Aug. 14.
