A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of sitting in a room with Apalachee Audubon board members and active volunteers to plot out a vision for the next year. We shared our goals for the chapter and worked out plans to achieve them. I was inspired by what I heard and to say that I'm excited about what's to come would be an understatement. We have many new changes over this next year, including new board members, new programs, and even a new editor of The Limpkin Times. I sincerely hope that you're as excited about what is to come as I am, and look forward to working with you to make Tallahassee a better home for both birds and people.

Meet at the parking area for the soccer fields on Miller Landing Rd. at 7:45am. We’ll be targeting Cerulean Warbler and other early migrants.

Meet at 7:45am at Faulk Dr. Landing, where we’ll be targeting Alder Flycatcher and other migrants. Afterwards, we’ll head to Fred George Basin Greenway, with the possibility of stopping at other sites around Lack Jackson afterwards, time permitting.

Late October is a good time to find vagrants on the refuge, plus a few lingering migrants and returning sparrows and waterfowl. Meet at the Munson Hill Off-Road Bike Trailhead on Woodville Hwy (just south of Capital Circle) at 7:15am, and we'll carpool down

Lake Elberta Bird Walk for Teens, Aug. 19
There will be a bird walk for teens at the Palmer-Monroe Community Center at Lake Elberta on August 19 from 10 am - 12 noon.
We need volunteers to work with the teens and introduce them to the site.

Trip to Sweetwater Wetlands Park in Gainesville - Snail Kites
|
On July 28, Apalachee Audubon went a bit further afield for its field trip. The destination was the Gainesville area, the new home of several
snail kites
that have set up shop in some of its marshes and wet prairies. About 15 of us car-pooled down there early Saturday and first stopped at Sweetwater Wetlands Park.

Volunteers Needed
Going into this next program year, Apalachee Audubon has some needs.
Helen Jelks King is moving out of the area and will no longer be able to serve as our field trip leader. If you would like to help others discover the birds of this area, this is your chance!
Finally, we will have a number of opportunities to work events, help teach students, and enhance local habitat. There's always more we can do. We just need the people to do it.

Hannah and Erik Go Birding - Podcasts

Hannah and Erik are firm believers that it is never too late to start birding. They work to inspire others to take on the hobby, explore the great outdoors, breathe fresh air, and enjoy watching these fascinating creatures of flight. Hannah and Erik have traveled the world in search of birds and have started a podcast to share their adventures with others, in hopes that they can encourage others to get out and explore. they discuss the successes and failures from their recent birding adventures, share related news and anything else that comes to mind. Listen in to learn from their mistakes and find your next birding spot.
Their most recent adventure includes a trip to Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center (Georgia), Eufaula National Wildlife Refuge (Alabama), and Providence Canyon State Park (Georgia) on Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, Google Play, and anywhere else you hear podcasts.
