What's happening...
by: Steve Matheny,  Executive Director

Summer is marching on and Fall is just around the corner.  All of our area schools are gearing up for the new school year and I thought I'd take just a few moments to point out some new developments and opportunities available to us as summer comes to a close.

Going to the Dogs!...and a chance to double your money
Hopefully you've recently heard or read about the Granville Police Department's interest to add two K-9 officers to the force.  The Chamber is proud to step forward to assist in publicizing this need and help with fundraising efforts.  These are specially trained and certified dogs which will work patrol with officers who work shifts alone. Having these dogs on the force will add to officer, and the public's, safety.

I am especially pleased to announce that Ross' Granville Market and the Ross family have pledged to match any/all community contributions received by September 1st!  This is extraordinarily generous on the part of Ross' Market and essentially doubles any donation you are able to make.  Please note that contributions you make are tax deductible (if you itemize deductions on your return) and checks should be made payable to The Village of Granville.  Feel free to call me with any questions and thank you for considering this worthwhile cause.

Hotlicks Blues Festival - Your volunteer help needed please
The annual day long Hotlicks Blues Festival is just three weeks away and your volunteer support is requested.  The event itself runs from 1:00 to 10:00 pm on Saturday, September 2nd.  Volunteers are needed for 3 hour shifts (or longer) and will receive a one of a kind T-shirt in appreciation.  Activities may include duties like site maintenance, beverage dispensing, stage management or other duties as assigned.  Please consider helping out at this terrific community music event which specifically supports and benefits the Heather Pick Program at the James Cancer Clinic.  Please contact Lon Herman, lebicicletta1@gmail.com, to sign up to volunteer.

It's not too late...sponsors, players, and volunteers sought for the Granville Chamber Alliance Golf Outing on September 18th!!
The Chamber's 9th annual Golf Outing is just 5 short weeks away and we still have a number of prime sponsorship opportunities available and there's still time to sign up a foursome for a wonderful day of golf at the iconic Denison Golf Club at Granville.  New this year will be lunches provided by SteamRoller Bagel Sandwiches.  A buffet supper provided by the Granville Inn will follow your round of golf.  Please consider joining us for an enjoyable afternoon of golf and camaraderie with your fellow Chamber colleagues and guests.  Click on this link for more info, sponsorship specifics, and a foursome registration form.

KUDOS!

A few weeks ago, Deb Tegtmeyer penned an article in the Newark Advocate entitled, "Businesses with Charitable Attitudes Critical to Local Non-Profits." In it she discusses how b usinesses can ensure a healthy charitable sector in Licking County and how the local business and non-profit sectors affect each other. Ms. Tegtmeyer is the executive director of the Licking County Coalition for Housing and the GACC Board President.  You can read her article and be inspired here! We appreciate you and everything you do for our community, Deb!

Last week, Denison University published the results of it's recent study regarding the economic impact it has on Licking County. "Quite frankly, I'm very proud of Denison's overwhelmingly positive economic benefit to our friends and neighbors in Granville and Licking County," said David English, the college's vice president of finance and management. "All this happens because of our strong and healthy town and gown partnership." We are proud to share this community with you, Denison University!  Please see the full press release here.

Congratulations to Home Video Studio's John & Tammy Montgomery  for their many awards at the 17th Annual Hanley Awards!  The were rewarded for Video Production and Best TV/Web Video, just to name a few! We are thrilled to have Home Video Studio as an active chamber member!

Way to go Granville Public Library and Mai Chau Restaurant for participating in "Granville Rocks Pelotonia" Facebook Group's Green Ribbon Project! Both locations served as a pick-up spot for the public to get green ribbons to tie on trees along the Pelotonia Route this past weekend. Thank you for taking that extra step to support Pelotonia!

Finally, may we please have a HUGE round of applause for the many Chamber members who rode in or otherwise supported Pelotonia!! It was a record breaking event with just ONE GOAL... to end cancer. We are inspired by you!
