Sarah Carpenter
Executive Director

Vermont Housing Finance Agency

Welcome to the Green Mountain State of Vermont and the New England Resident Service Coordinator's 17th annual conference. All of us at Vermont Housing Finance Agency (VHFA) are so pleased to host the 2015 meeting.

The role of Resident Service Coordinators is invaluable in the lives of many of our residents. Your continued hard work in connecting families and individuals to services that assist them is often critical to their success and quality of life and is what strengthens our affordable housing communities.  Thank you for your dedication to our shared mission.

I know from previous NERSC Conferences how valuable these training and networking opportunities are; I am sure this year's conference will be equally excellent.

Please join VHFA and all your NERSC colleagues at the beautiful Stowe Mountain Lodge, May 6-8, 2015. We look forward to seeing you then.

We are still smiling from our 2014 NERSC Conference and we hope you are too!  If you want to re-visit the workshops you attended or checkout the handouts for sessions that you missed, you can find them on Past Conference Highlights.

Special thanks to WeCast Productions for putting this video together for us!

2015 Call for Presentations

Diversity: Celebrating Beauty & Strength
Stowe Mountain Lodge, Stowe, Vermont
May 6-8, 2015

Please read the below information carefully and then complete the Call for Presentations Form.

As the premiere source of training and professional development for Resident Service Coordinators in New England and beyond, NERSC represents over 400 RSC's and housing professionals. The primary function of NERSC, Inc. is to convene a 2.5 day professional conference every year, in early May, providing an educational and networking forum for Resident Service Coordinators and other housing professionals who serve a diverse resident population.  The conference offers the opportunity to showcase your technical expertise and "best practice" programs to leaders in the housing and social service professions.

Conference Structure:
The 17th Annual NERSC, Inc. Conference will feature 2 hour workshops on Wednesday & Thursday and 1.5 hour workshops on Friday.  The workshop sessions will be a mixture of lecture-based, case studies, panel discussion and interactive instruction featuring a well-balanced mixture of best practices, hot topics, core areas, skill development and newly available resources.

Conference Attendees:
NERSC conference attendees generally come from all over New England and beyond. With diverse housing and social service backgrounds, they are affiliated with:  for profit and not for profit service organizations, housing management companies, public housing authorities, state housing finance agencies and community action agencies. The audience is experienced, knowledgeable, sophisticated and requires the most cutting edge quality information and training.

Presentation Guidelines:
For 2015, we are offering both 1.5 and 2 hour workshops.  For those topics that require more than 2 hours, please consider offering a Part I & II or two workshops (basic/more in-depth). Workshops should offer participants the opportunity to become acquainted with a new subject or acquire in-depth knowledge on more familiar topics.

Please carefully consider the level (beginner / intermediate / advanced) when submitting your proposal.  We have attendees that are brand new to the industry and many that have been in the field for decades. It is important the level be accurately reflected in the workshop content.

There are four basic educational tracks that workshop topics fall under:  Elderly/Disabled Populations, Family & Youth, Professional Development, and Supervisory/Management.  Some presentations may have crossover appeal to more than one educational track.

We hope that in the course of your presentation, you can integrate the theme of the conference, "Diversity: Celebrating Beauty & Strength".

Panel presentations are limited to no more than three speakers.  We request that 2 hour workshops offer a 10 minute break in the middle of their session.

Audio Visual Requirements, Workshop Size & Room Setup Request:

NERSC will provide complimentary LCD projectors, screens, laptop speakers, flip charts and markers for those that request them at the time of proposal submission. Laptops are the responsibility of the presenter.  Based on projected attendance, NERSC will provide microphone systems to the larger workshops. Any additional audio visual needs (i.e. - mouse pointers, etc.) are the responsibility of the presenter. Complimentary internet will be available, but speed cannot be guaranteed.  It is recommended that you download any videos, etc. from the internet to your laptop to guarantee performance.

The average workshop is approximately 40-65 attendees, but this can vary greatly based on the topic.  If you need to limit your audience to a specific number of attendees, please list this in the appropriate section of the Call for Presentations Form. With approximately 400 attendees and only a limited number of workshop breakout rooms, your proposal may be denied based on your attendee limit. If your proposal is accepted, you will be given a final headcount in April 2015.

We ask you to consider the best room setup for your workshop session and select from classroom, theater or rounds on the form. NERSC will attempt to accommodate all requests, however room setup is not guaranteed. If you have questions regarding the room setup types, please contact [email protected]

Compensation Request:
NERSC, Inc. values the time and expertise of speakers.  To keep our conference fees affordable to front line RSCs, we ask that requests for compensation be kept to a minimum. There is an option to received "reduced registration" for those presenters that would like to attend the conference. In exchange for compensation, you will receive 1/3 off your registration rate per workshop.

Presentation Submission: Deadline is September 30, 2014.

The following (3) items must be submitted in order for your presentation to be reviewed.

  • Call for Presentations Form
  • Current Resume
  • Brief Bio that can be used for your introduction if the workshop is selected.

Decision/Notification Process:
Presentations will be accepted through September 30, 2014. Speakers will be notified via mail by December 1, 2014.  If your workshop is accepted, your letter will confirm the details of your workshop, audio visual needs, compensation (if any) and the date and time of your workshop. If any of these items are incorrect, you will need to contact our office prior to December 15, 2014. After that time, your letter will act as your official agreement and we will move forward with registering attendees for your session.
