President's Note

Dear Friends,

Hello there! It sure has been a very busy summer for everyone and the weather has not let us down at all.

We have started work on our Arts Gallery. We have scheduled a carpenter to start work. We had a large delivery of shiplap (barn board) that needs to be stained before it can be installed on the ceiling and gables. We are looking for volunteers to help with some staining and we have other small jobs that need attention. We are also doing a Boot Drive. If you would like to help and have some fun give me a call. We are getting more excited and hoping to be open by next summer.

Hamburgers, hotdogs and cold drinks will be provided.

Boot Drive - Saturday, September 23rd, 9:00am - 1:00pm

Avian Nature
The Jaffrey Civic Center, Jaffrey, NH

The Jaffrey Civic Center is hosting a mixed media exhibit titled, "Avian Nature", by Karena Ness from August 4th to September 1st in the upstairs Cunningham Gallery. There will be an Opening Reception for the show on Friday, August 4th from 5pm to 7pm. Karena Ness grew up in a rural North Dakota surrounded by open sky and fields. She moved south to further explore her understanding of painting while earning her M.F.A. in Painting through Savannah College of Art and Design.  In 2006, Karena moved to New Hampshire where she has made her home and continues to discover, experiment and share her love of art forms through exhibiting and teaching.

"The creation of  'environment' in regards to my artistic practice has always relied upon an imaginary realm of exploration. I explore the reactive qualities of paint as layers are spilled, stamped, troweled, and hand-painted. The subtle effects created by 'paint being paint' spark and fascinate, leading my imagination down its own path, composing and directing the final character or identity of the painting. I articulate suggestions of the natural world, ambiguous silhouettes and most recently, bird imagery. These birds are not predetermined, rather they appear to land unintentionally. They entail no formal classification yet offer an identity within the spaces they inhabit. My paintings are not specific to or representative of any one of these ideas, instead they become a compilation, defined within ones own imagination." The exhibit and the reception are free and open to the public.

The Jaffrey Civic Center is located at 40 Main Street, Jaffrey, New Hampshire, next to the Library, parking in rear. Hours are Monday-Friday from 10am to 5pm (closed 12-1pm), Sat 10am-2pm. Admission is always free. For more information about us, call 603-532-6527, e-mail us at [email protected], visit our website, or "Like" us on Facebook.

Call to Artists: Summer Finale
Londonderry Arts Council, Londonderry, NH

CALL TO ARTISTS - Contact [email protected]

The Londonderry Arts Council presents a one-day, free-admission, event that celebrates creativity and craftsmanship both visually and musically.

Fine artists and artisans and acoustic musical acts will entertain attendees. Activities will include children's fun. The event will take place on the spacious, green lawns of the Town Commons in Londonderry, New Hampshire. Musicians will perform all day on the stage. Artist tents and vendor tables will be clustered throughout the property, offering artwork, fine crafts, food, and information of local interest. We have invited food trucks and other food sellers to participate.

Event planners foresee this becoming a "Signature Event" for Londonderry and the Region. Summer Finale has a different and broader focus than the traditional Town Old Home Day. During the last weekend of summer, we will be filling a gap here in central Southern New Hampshire to recognize and appreciate fine artists, artisans, and musicians.

Show Date & Time: Saturday September 23, 2017 (Rain date: Sunday September 24) 10am - 4pm

Location: Outdoors at the Town Common on the corner of Mammoth & Pillsbury Roads in Londonderry, NH

Food vendors, artists, artisans, and select non-profit vendors as well as sponsor's tables will be intermixed throughout the property. Free nearby parking for all.

Music: Acoustic musicians (with the aid of sound equipment) will play the entire day on the stage. This location is perfect for attendees to bring a chair and stay for an hour or for the day. Note: This is not an open-mic event.

Promotion of Artists/Artisans: All artists & artisans will receive a FREE listing in the full-color program to be distributed to visitors, participants, and local businesses. You may also purchase a larger display ad in this program. This program image will be featured on the Arts Council Facebook Page and will remain on our web site for the year following Summer Finale.

All artists and artisans new to this event must be juried.

Eligibility: Vendors must be 18 years of age and accepted by the jury.

Art On The Line

Artists' Party for Art On The Line

Thursday, September 14
5:30 to 7:30 PM
ArtsWorcester, 660 Main Street

Our signature fall fundraiser, Art On The Line, needs you. And to thank you, we are holding an artists' party.

For our fundraiser, hundreds of artists across the area donate to ArtsWorcester 5"x7" two-dimensional artworks, or, if that size is just too small, 8"x10". We gather them up, organize them, and scan them into online catalogues. Then, in early November, we suspend them all from the ceiling in a very temporary installation for Art On The Line, a fast and furious art sale at which they are all sold for $20 or $30 each. Guests--including donating artists--shop the online catalogues in advance, and, when the doors are opened, dash in to grab the ones they want. Every cent of the proceeds keeps us in operation.

Your 5"x7" (or 8"x10") artwork is your ticket to the artists' party on Thursday, September 14 (and to Art On The Line itself).  Join us from 5:30 to 7:30 PM for food, drinks, live music, and the chance to see old friends or meet new ones. Parking is free in the paved lots belonging to the Freemasons, at Ionic and Beacon Street (do not park in the gravel lot across the street).

Geography is not an obstacle: in previous years, we accepted works mailed in from states as far-flung as California and Florida.

How to participate:
  • Membership is not required. All artists are welcome, at any age, level, or location.
  • Artwork must be sized precisely 5"x 7" or 8"x10"; artwork larger or smaller than those dimensions cannot be accepted.
  • All mediums, techniques, and level of experience accepted gratefully.
  • Artwork must be flat and light enough to be suspended from a bulldog clip.
  • We can accept up to four works per artist.
  • Clearly label your work with your name and medium, on the top right back of your work(s).
  • Please do not frame your work(s).
  • C.C. Lowell is donating 98-lb mixed-media paper for you to use if you like, available there.
  • Pre-registration is not required; just drop off your donations in person at the party or during gallery hours, or mail them to 660 Main Street, Worcester, MA, 01610.
Your donated artworks keep our exhibits running and free to all. Thank you for your support and participation!
