Water
Aerobics - Getting in Shape the Aquatic Way!
Water
aerobics has been gaining popularity in the past few years. Many
gyms and local pools are offering classes to help people keep
moving, and stay in shape. While many of us associate water
aerobics with older generations, it can be a great form of exercise
for people of all ages!
There
are many benefits to getting your exercise in the water. First;
for those that suffer from pain, specifically joint pain, aqua
aerobics provides a muscle-toning, heart-rate increasing form of
exercise that is impact-free. The buoyancy of the water protects
the joints where out-of-water activities like running,
stair-stepping, and regular aerobics carry risks. This same
buoyancy can also be therapeutic for other kinds of pain, from sore
muscles to more chronic conditions.
Water
Aerobics has also been found to burn a comparable number of
calories to other exercise modalities. While it won't slim you
down and tone you up as quickly as resistance training (weight
lifting) it will provide you a gentle way to get your heart rate up
and to keep your body healthy, and over time it will tone your
physique.
It's
important that, should you choose to join a water aerobics class,
you find one with an instructor whose teaching feels right for you.
Make sure your class moves slowly or swiftly enough based on your
needs. Also, keep in mind that water aerobics is not the
recommended form of exercise for those with Osteoporosis, as that
particular pathology benefits most from impact exercises such as
walking.
Now
get out there and enjoy the last of the summer heat in the pool and
feeling great!
*Please note: Apply your Sore No More!
after your post swimming shower. Applying it before swimming may
cause you to become slippery, which is never good while at the
pool!*
See your
doctor before beginning any new exercise routine to determine if it
the correct form of exercise for you.

Keep
Your Joints Healthy
Joint
pain, especially in the form of osteoarthritis is one of the most
common complaints amongst the aging community. While general wear
and tear on the joints is unavoidable, there are some ways that you
can encourage your joints to remain healthy as you
age.
Stay Fit. It's the go to for
most health concerns, and as challenging as it can be to keep
yourself on a regular exercise routine, it's imperative to your
joint health. Carrying around too much weight is one of the
primary causes of joint stress. Walking for 20-30 minutes a day
can do amazing things to keep you in shape, healthy and to help
maintain your joint health and mobility.
Walking is one of the best forms of exercise for joint health, but
try to do a little weight-training a couple of times a week to help
build muscle strength (which will in turn stabilize your
joints.)
Don't Forget About Inflammation.
Inflammation means that there's most likely going to be some pain
present. Your joints may be inflamed due to weather, normal wear
and tear or exercise. Apply an ice pack to inflamed joints for 10
minutes a couple of times a day to keep the inflammation at
bay.
Eating an anti-inflammatory diet can also help with inflammation
in the long run. Check out Dr. Andrew Weil's website for some
tips.
Don't Over Use. While you may
love playing basketball on the weekends, considering cutting it
down to one day instead of two. High-impact sports will wear your
joints out more quickly. Our bodies are much like vehicles, they
can run very well with regular maintenance, but there are some
parts that just begin to wear out. Decreasing stress on those
parts can increase their longevity.
Taking
steps now to keep your joints in good condition will keep you
moving down the road of life happy and pain free.
Don't
forget that Sore No More can have a profound affect on your
osteoarthritis pain, so rub some on your aching joints before and
after exercise to help keep you
moving.

Testimonial
of the Month
Oh wow, my shoulder was hurting (a muscle
was swollen!) Not sure if it was from stress over studying for the
bar, or that i did 40 pushups last night. I used my free sample and
the pain is gone!! I was going to give my free sample to my mom but
now I'll have to order more! -Marcus S.
