Hello SWG Adults and Juniors!
This summer has brought the heat to every golf course. How can you prepare and deal with those very hot days on the course.
Hydrate- You know you need to drink during your round but did you know you need hydrate the day before? Make sure you are drinking plenty of fluids (preference on water) the day before a big round. Once you are thirsty it is too late!
Water is best- Water is the drink of choice but on extremely hot days you may need additional electrolytes. Stay away from high sugar drinks and choose electrolyte tablets that are easy to carry in your bag and can be added to any water bottle.
Conserve your energy- Set up a certain number of balls with each club on the range and then focus on chipping and putting before your round.
Sunscreen- Wear a wide-brimmed hat if possible and cover every exposed skin area with sunscreen of at least SPF 30 and reapply during the round. Make sure you use plenty on the back of your neck and ears.
Cooling Towels- Invest in one of the many brands of cooling towels and wet in ice water before your round. Place on the back of your neck during the round to instantly cool you.
Shade- As much as possible seek shade when you are waiting to hit or on back-ups on a tee.
Eat- Despite a depressed appetite for most people in high temps, nibble on something low in sugar at least every three holes- hungry or not! Prevent that back nine slump.
Enjoy- Most importantly enjoy the sunshine and the warmth that promotes great golf conditions, increased flexibility and pleasant moods!
